I'm not saying the kid just picked up a bass one day and started ripping away. All I'm saying is to "get it" like he does,he was blessed with that "something" special. In other words,IMO,I think he's found his calling early in life.Lucky him.
It's a fact that some people have to work harder at some things than others.I've come to face the fact that I'm one of those people that have to bust their ass to get to a "presentable level" of musicianship. That's all.
Sorry to get all in your face about that. It's just that I'm tired of hearing the 'blessed' thing, when I think we have a better explanation.
I happen to believe that some folks hear/feel music better than others, and I chalk that up to genetics. And I further believe that if you can
really hear, feel, or see something, in a really deep way, you can do it.
For example I play music pretty well without too much effort or training. But I can't draw worth a damn, and I've tried. My brother can draw really, really well, with no training. So does our Dad. Now, Mom's a decent musician, but can't draw...
Being a couple years younger than me, and looking up to big bro, my brother tried for years to become a musician. He studied trumpet, French horn, piano and violin, and was a miserable failure at each. Horrible.
Now, he's a huge music fan-more so than me, actually. He owns more albums than me, listens more often, and is a big classical fan, where I'm more of a jazz guy, but anyway...here's the thing.
My theory is he doesn't 'get' music as easily as I do, thus his deeper fascination with it, compared to mine. Genetics, IMO. (steps down from soapbox).
