very first soundcheck:

You can find more Pics and infos on my Homepage.

cheers,
Daniel

The low octave courses sound thunderous. Looks like a labor of love to build and to play. The individually compensated frets (??) are interesting. I wonder what kind of temperament you used? Setting the body of the instrument directly on the floor makes me nervous, though!

its an 1:1 original copy of a historical instrument. there exists only one original instrument worldwide. You can find the original at the "Kunsthistroische Museum" Vienna.
The temperament is a 1/4 comma temperament. The thirds sounds purely, the quinte are reduced. but you can not play all intervals because some sound false ;)
I was able to measure the original instrument, since the reconstruction was not possible until.
its a fender at the top, so you can setting the body directly on teh floor.

regards,
D

Man, you should post this on the doublebass side if you haven't already. No knock on the work or skill it takes to put together a well made electric bass, but you are showing chops on another level with these acoustic builds. (That is my impression, anyway. Maybe making a nice neck-through instrument takes a similar level of skill.)

Another Bass Instrument:

Viola da Gamba. Gut Strings. Its like a tiny double bass ;) but sounds different.

La Linea... What an amazing idea

Thank you! I only saw this a few times as a little kid. Didn't know the title or realize it was Italian (not that any knowledge of Italian is necessary to enjoy it), but the iconic character stuck in my mind. I will spend some time with this video!

And lovely work with the instruments, as always!

It's a joy to watch these creations.

I recall a saying, ? attributed to Michelangelo?: "I just remove everything that doesn’t look like David."

What a range of creativity and craftsmanship on display here. Thank you for allowing us to look in!

Thak you for watching ;)
