I just talked to John K. who makes those incredible basses in the Luthier's section. Apparently he knows the guy who built the Godin instruments (among others like Martins). He said that guy built a huge building out in the middle of a forest to do his work. They would go cut trees and mill them themselves. He cut so much wood that he had a group of guys hired just to sharpen the saw blades. Apparently, a very highly respected builder.

Are you talking about Robert Godin? Godin makes Godin and about four other brands. They are bassed in Quebec (yay Canada!) I've had five Godins over the years (2 Simon and Patricks) They've all been fine instruments. My guitar/mando player has the A8 mando. It looks pretty funny next to my A4. They also make an oud. Funny though, I can see them in the forest of Quebec with a guitar making operation.
