I use a P-bass that I've upgraded with an active EMG P-bass pickup and I run it through an SVT-3 Pro, Mesa Diesel 2X15, with an MXR M-80 and BBE Sonic-maximizer. My question is, is it necessary to use the -15db switch on the SVT-3 Pro? My sound is so much more powerful without using the -15db.

Your effects have level controls right? If you're getting unwanted input clipping, you can reduce the level there rather than using the big pad on the amp. If it sounds good you're fine.

Thanks Ben. I was told you had to use it with active pickups and I've never been happy with the sound that way.

You do NOT have to use the -15db pad with active basses. I never once have used an active input with an active bass. They are there only for the rare occasional bass that is super hot and totally boosted beyond reason.
