1955 Ampeg crystal mic and endpin setup including screw on patch cord

I am a third generation bass player with potentially a 4th as my daughter -who knows, she is 7 and plays it every now and then so I got a U bass for me and her so she has a smaller scale and fret board -the other daughter may bass, but I would guess she will be guitar. They are only 5 & 7 and not going to understand the significance of this setup for a while. My friend used it at his studio and loved it (2010) and just a month or two ago I brought it to my neighbor who is an amp tech/electronics & guitar tech and let him play with if for a week or so and while he had it he went through and disassembled as far as he could and I think the only thing he did was replace one or two leads that were disintegrating, but it sounded really cool with and without the pre boost you need... -and its in great shape, making it one of the very few that haven't melted or disintegrated. I want to display it at places that celebrate music like a rock museum or Mo Pop for some period of time and have it at a few places before I bring it back to show my daughters when they are older and plug it back in to the standup. My father came home from high school one day to find my grandpa and some guy from Ampeg drilling a hole into the bottom of my dads Kay. That was in Chicago. I think there are some on display at places around the country but thought I would ask if anybody is familiar with Illinois that knows where would be a good place for it to be displayed, for starters.

The fact that it is in such good condition makes it a shame for it not to be recording so I am thinking about renting it out to recording studios as a specialty mic.

anyone have any thoughts, good idea/bad idea for me to do? know a good place to display it

Ampeg = Amplified Peg.

Yes, nice piece of history. In my narrow minded opinion, better left as a historic display somewhere, than actually using it in a recording studio. I would imagine that it doesn’t take much to feed back.

Definitive book:
