1964 Ears Owners Group

Received my v6 stage's today can't wait to try them this weekend . Being a Noob to in ears can some fellow bassist tell me how you usually go about doing your mix in them . I understand different strokes for different folks but still like to hear your input. I will be a using the Shure psm 300 system with them and most likely going mono .

I've been happy with a mono mix, but I'm wired and non-digital, so I can't do too much customizing. Mine are pretty low volume as I don't have the guitars or drums miked up, so it comes down to getting more me, vocals/keys/acoustic guitar via mixer and then the ambient of guitar and drums. Works better than it reads. I'm curious to have a full mix in ear because you will still get the ambient bleed to some degree; I'm just not sure how I would adjust my levels.

Same here, I get so much bleed of the guitar thru the vocal mics I don't need additional him directly, ditto the drums. But that said I am still unnerved by hearing myself when I sing lead, to the point where I usually half pull one ear out before my songs start. Too much of a good thing ha!

Don't pull one ear out.. the whole purpose of IEM's is to have BOTH in. If it bothers you, turn down your OWN vocal level in the mix.. I do that because if my vocal is too loud, I tend not to sing as hard and higher notes will "crack".It's really off-putting hearing to much "me"!
I also have the other vocalists level lower than mine (barely there, so I can hear him when he's talking to the audience) because listening to him (+ lead vox in 3-part harmonies) at too high a level, will often throw me off. I only put kick/snare in my ears.. don't care about toms, and I don't monitor lead vox's acoustic. He doesn't start any songs, or solo, so no need for it.
I 'm telling you this because you may need to experiment with levels to see what works for you. I had to, but I gig regularly so it didn't take long.
Whatever those may be for you, you should NOT have to pull one ear out when singing...

This. I'm on a wired solution with an Invalid Link Removed box and I can adjust the blend between the monitor feed and my DI feed, or I can reduce the volume from the headphone amp while adjusting my bass volume offset by amp volume to maintain levels. Don't pull one out; there are other solutions.

It's official, I have a problem. I gave a friend the 1964 site to look for IEMs and I noticed that the Adel tech is now for all model types. I have some tinnitus from younger days and always had some ear trouble (ruptured drum as child, some loud music, flew on an ear infection and got wicked vertigo), so I'm pretty sensitive about the ear volume. Dig my quads, and now seeing the A4, I'm having a large amount of lust hoping that the pneumatic pressure thing is real, but I don't need to be spending the money right now. Would like to demo them, but fear that I will purchase them.

Somebody stop me.

Have you considered contacting 1964 to see if they have any places they can send demo versions of the Adel tech for you to hear? I know at some conferences or conventions vendors have the tech in universal fit shells for people to try, but I don't know if 1964 does that or not.

I've resisted the urge so far, but yes, that's my next step. Will wait until new year.

No, no loss of bass with the Adels. I have the A12s. Full, round and clear. I also have a set of Quads and the bass sounds great on both.

That's sweet! I was hoping to hit this thread and find someone that's tried both.

So, can you say there is a difference in ear pressure between the A12s and the quads?

I'm curious about this as well....

I'm getting ready to invest in some better, custom IEM's, and I've already settled on 64 Audio, I'm just curious if the consensus would be to drop the coin on the ADEL's or just stick with the V series. I do sing a bit, but I'm not a singer, lol! There's a pretty significant coin difference between the A4's and the Qi's. Is it worth the $350 to go ADEL? Thanks!

I went thru the same dilemma when 1964 had their kickstart pgm going.. I could have had a pair of A12's for $999. After much soul (and bank acct) searching, I decided to stay with my Quads (Qi's) and save the $$. To be fair, I have NOT tried or heard the A12's or any of the other "A's, but based on other multi-driver (8's) that I have auditioned, there would have to be massive improvement to justify the ~$350 price differential between the Qi's and A4's.
I'm VERY happy with my Qi's.
Maybe GeriO can throw in his $0.02 as I know he own's a set of them!

Steve, I'm with ya on that one. At the moment, I Just don't think I could be happier with what I'm getting with my Quads, even though I still roll off a little bottom on my mix with them.

However, as with all things I seem to get into, I'll have owned mine for 2 years in February and about that time with anything, I tend to start getting curious about the new stuff that's out there. So, depending on finances (I REALLY want a REDDI DI!) and timing, I'll probably look into a set of the ADELS. Unless I decided to get more serious about recording and spring for an iMac (Good grief, does it EVER STOP??...:help::D)

But NOT because I think there's any shortcoming in the Quads whatsoever.

Hey, when I bought mine, I think they were labeled Qs. but shortly afterwards, I started seeing them listed as Qis. Are you aware of any differences in the "i" and the none-"i" models? Mine may have been the "i" model and I just didn't notice it.

Geri.. no clue as to the name change.. when I first looked they were labeled Quads, then went to Qi's. not sure there was ever a non-"i" version...
But I am like you in the G.A.S. dept... curious as to the upgrade potential out there.. our drummer has Alien ears C3's and one of our guitar players is waiting on his UE7's to arrive. I think the Qi's are probably better than both, but the [REAL] issue for me (vs Qi's) is simple.
Does the price increase correlate to the "improved" audio quality with Adel technology or additional drivers?
Thus, is the $2K price for A12's worth the extra $1400 over the Qi's?
Idk.. but I can't see it.

My quads arrive tomorrow. Can't wait. Just finished a long run of playing every weekend at Church. Now I have wait a few weeks to use them. Bummer. My rock cover band is not set up for in-ears. It will be cool to check them out for late nice practice though.
