If they hurt when you wear them, there is a problem with the shell fit, NOT the material. I've worn mine for up to 6 hrs straight and they are STILL comfortable. I have literally HUNDREDS of hours of use on both my Qi's and A8's. Completely comfortable.

It's very possible that the impressions were not correct... 64audio scans the molds and builds from there. I've had TWO sets of IEM's from them.. SAME audiologist doing the impressions and they FIT perfectly.
That audiologist has done dozens on impressions for 64Audio - as a local mega-church uses them, and they all go to her for impressions.
Let's be clear.. it's NOT your fault.
This stuff happens.. garbage in, garbage out.. 64Audio works from the impressions, it's all they have. Bad impressions? Bad shells.

CALL them and let them know what's going on.
Is it just in one ear or both?

FWIW - Way back (8 yrs?) I also had this problem when I had 1/2 molds made (by Westone) to go on the stems of my UM1's. They hurt like a mother after about 5 mins.. It was the impressions, NOT the build material.

It happens. Even 6-sigma manufacturing has an error allowance; you happened to draw the short straw. Next time it will likely be me who does...:sorry:

In communications with the refit tech, who wants to know where it hurts. My best description is that the stem that goes into the canal is just slightly too large. So when it seals, it’s putting a lot of enlarging pressure on the canal. I know this is a critical dimension to get the seal right. No idea how they can rework the molds. No margin for error.

Probably have to go back and forth on reworks; but, it seems to me that new impressions will have to be taken. But, if their approved suppliers out here in AZ are unreliable, I may have a basic problem.

A4’s back after refit, and in time for gig tomorrow night. 64 Audio was really good about turning them around.

MUCH better. No pain. I’ve been wearing them for 15 minutes; and I think these will work. Seal in the left ear is perfect. Seal in the right ear is maybe borderline, but it will work. I wouldn’t exactly call them comfortable; but, they are wearable.

Sound, of course, is outstanding.

I’ll post up after the gig tomorrow night. Definitely a step up from the UM-30’s.

So...I used the A4’s on the gig over the weekend. This gig was three one hour sets. 64 Audio’s refit definitely solved the problem with the ear canal pain. No problem there. But, what I did run into was that by the third set, my left ear cartiledge was burning up at the top of the shell. There must be some contour there that the molds failed to capture.

Guess I may need to send them back again for further refit. But, in this case, it’s not just a matter of taking a little bit off. It needs to be also in the right place, which I can’t really pin down.

Going to have to discuss with 64, and see what they recommend.

One other cosmetic thing was that I ordered the phones with translucent charcoal faceplates; but, they delivered clear. I don’t get too hung up on cosmetics; but, it is just one more thing.

Keep us posted.. I'm curious.. because I've had nothing but great results from my dealings with them..

You said the right ear fit was borderline; did that bother you during the show? With all the different IEMs I have used during the years, I cannot really say I miss the one pair (Westone) I had molded for me long time ago. The memory foam tips works fine in my ears and provide all the isolation I need.

No, the seal was great. No problem there at all. In fact, the big thing these do for me is that they maintain the seal while singing.

I wish I could use universals.. but they don't stay put (sealed), even when using the SMALLEST commercially available tips. I've tried 'em all !!
I paid a LOT of $$$ for my 1964 A8's, but DANG they produce some seriously STELLAR audio.. assuming I'm getting stellar audio fed to them :)

More time with the A4’s in rehearsal last night. I think my last remaining issue with the left ear discomfort was due to not getting the mold ALL the way seated. I mean, I thought it was, but turned out it wasn’t. So, looks like user error. Mea culpa. I still wouldn’t call them exactly comfortable; but, they are quite definitely doing everything I need and a whole lot better than the UM30’s. Thanks to all for the support.

I’ll give a pass to 64 on the cosmetic issues. Clear is fine. I can live with it.

Looking into getting a set of custom molded 64's. Im a college kid so my budget is kinda tight. Anyone have any expierience with the A2e set? Someday id like to get the 6 or 8's but right now just not practical.

I mostly play at church groups(1-2 times a month, about 3-4 hours of playing) and have a few bands I gig with a few times a year slowly starting to grow into more gigging stuff. I also play acoustic/electric guitar so any insight on that would also be greatly appreciated.

If you’re on a budget, 64 is not the only brand out there for custom IEMs. 64 are great but they are not positioning themselves for the less expensive end of the market...
