Randall RB100 compressor

I have an older version of the Randal RB100 amp (the model without the eq sliders). I was wondering if anyone has one and could answer a question.

When I turn on the amp, the compressor LED is green. If you turn the compressor down it still stays green. Only if you really crank it does the LED turn red. Is this what it is supposed to do? I would think it would not turn on until it compresses the signal, and that the red light means the signal is peaking.

BCould it be an “always on” state with the green light, then turns red only when the signal is hot enough to be compressed (when it then turns red). If you roll the level up,slowly, is there an “in between” area where the light is yellow ( indicating moderate compression).

Green is under-threshold, red is over-threshold.
