I recently purchased a “used - not opened” set of D’Addario NS Traditionals for my NS NXTa 5 string EUB. To my surprise, the box was full of used strings that were repackaged.

The strings (B, E, A, D, G) all have black silk at both ends and a black hollow ball at the end. Any idea what these are?

It may have been an honest mistake. A common practice is to wind old strings up and put them in the package new strings came in. I do this for customers all the time in my shop, but I usually mark the package with a date and some info on a piece of masking tape.

Sorry, no help on the old ones. They're pretty random looking. Not especially good.
