He should try for the Funeral Discount. Unfortunately, even in rough shape it still sentimental value for the buyer. Interesting to find out $1000. might be fair! but I think fair only if it's in good condition.

i have played Mosrite guitars and basses, they seem to have decently high output pickups, especially some of the guitars. Sound like a p90, but with a humbucker output.

They’re actually not bad sounding. With a good amp they can be pretty impressive. The pickup is a little different. Gets that good foil or P90-ish vibe on the ones I’ve tried out over the years.

I have no idea what you can get for one however.
