1966 or 1969 jazz, different history to each!

ok, I haven't bought a lakland
but I bought a fender custom shop 64 jazz bass nos

and really don't regret my decision after having tried the vinatge ones
the y felt great, I mean really great, the 69 at the first page with the funny neck was the best of all three

but, except for the broken in feel, I couldn't justify buying a vintage one after having tried one of my friends custom shop jazz!
funny thing is I went first to my friend to have him try my custom shop pino palladino Pbass, maybe to it to him, and he made me try his jazz, I was wondering "damn, this sounds good feel good!!"

so really, I love vintage instruments ( I have a 77 jazz, beat off but so roots) but this fender jazz I got has something special!!!

the slap tone is great, the fingerstyle too!
and I got it for a great price !!so it allowed me to save a lot of bucks and to buy a good french bow for my upright bass!

so really happy about my decision, pics coming soon!

Good for you! My first Fender was a used CS NOS '64 as well, for which I paid $1500 USD. still loving it, though I might sell it soon as I have a '66 and a '73 now that I acquired by trading up slowly, buying and selling vintage axes until I got my dream ones without putting any extra cash into them save the profits, since the amount of the first purchases. The CS is equal to the vintage ones, but I like the worn in feel and the nostalgia factor of old fenders, not to mention the bragging rights (I'm vain, and shallow).

My dream bass would be a white or burgundy mist early 66 w/neck binding and dot inlays, and of course..,lollypops. I saw a sunburst one at a recent vintage guitar show that really didn't speak to me at all, regardless of price. The finish on it was poor quality (original) and it made me question my dream. Maybe it was just that particular bass.

Oh well...
