1970 Fender Precision

Very nice shape for that year. I bought a new sunburst when I was 17 in 1970 just like that. Paid 250 bucks on layaway. I worked in a sweatshop all summer to pay for it. Two weeks after I bought it it slipped out of my hands and slid down the cellar stairs, that among many the injustices and indignities I did to that poor bass. It looked older than yours after I had it for a year.

What do you think makes these older basses sound so good? Aged wood? Cigarette smoke? Just built better than current production? Adsorbed love from their owners?

My '74 Precision came with its original hard case and baked in cigarette smoke smell that took a long time to get (mostly) out! It's a great bass, and super light for a Fender of that era.

Congrats! That's a keeper. I bought a 71 P bass a while back. Super light with a C neck and plays and sounds great.

As a rock bass player, I couldn’t agree more.

I would add the 1962 for the Motown and retro tunes.

Never owned a 62, I’ve owned a 60 Slab board and a 63 though. The 63 was magical of course, but the 60 just had something. I dunno. Miss it.

If aging the wood were all it takes to bring improvement, I would be the second coming of Casanova.

Nice. Kinda agree with all the above. I had a 71, SB tort and it felt and played just beautifully. I think the secret sauce is that thick ole neck and heavy tuners.

There is some finish checking , it just seems that the pictures are abit out of focus.

Nice bass ! Play the heck out of it. Believe me , it’s not like you will actually get any wear on it.
