1976 Precision pickup - correct codes?

Hi everyone.

I've just come across an old P pickup of mine which I've always assumed to be a '76. However, the while the s/n is correct for one, the other is a different number. Visually, they seem to be a perfect match - there's no evidence of cut'n'shut. Do I need to doubt their authenticity...?

Yep looks correct to me. Fender just grabbed parts out of a box in those days, they didn’t really care about matching serials. If you carefully take the cover off the pickup, the wire should be purple.

Thanks! I was wondering if the 'other' pickup should at least end in 76... but maybe not. They look perfectly matched apart from that.

I think you mostly need to doubt Fender's datation accuracy.
There were moments they conceived instruments for the purpose of using parts they had in stock.
