That level of wear usually means it has been well utilised, so it's probably a goodie. All good suggestions so far. Any Fender bass can be good or bad, you've just got to try them out. Also, those knobs are original for that period.

1978 Jazz bass

i sold my '79 last year for $2400.00
i wasn't looking to sell, but the guy offered $2400 cash, and since i had recently retired from gigging, the offer was accepted.
personally, i thought he was nucking futs for spending that much on a bass that i bought new for ~ $400, but he was hell bent on owning a "birth year bass"... he got it, and he's happy with it... and i'm happy for him
