I posted this in the US Peavey Club thread - My new (to me) 94 fretless Foundation next to my fretted 86:
My buddy from work liked the feel of the white one so much he bought a black VFL 5-string, we'll have to get a group shot at some point...

I can't begin to explain my story with the peavey foundation. My 83 foundation basically made me. I have a tattoo of it on my arm and it's name tattooed on my chest as well. I played it through all my my childhood and teen years and even still when i got older and joined the air force. The the neck warped so badly with an S curve. I took it to the peavey factory in mississippi and they said it was toast. I spend years and years looking for a neck replacement to no avail. As a result I quit playing bass for many years. I kept an eye out though.

Finally I found an acceptable replacement and swapped out the necks, only to be disappointed that the bass lost it's magic. The tone wasn't the same. Plus the old neck has the most beautiful wood grain on the fretboard I have ever seen. (I'll try to post an image if I can). Now I decide the start playing bass again and I'm gonna get a grind bass just for now, while I consider ordering a nice carvin. But the Peavey Foundation was the most important thing that ever happened to me. I expressed every single bit of emotion I ever felt through that instrument.

I payed too much for this, but it is an early example, 1984.
The idiot PO ripped out the foam when it rotted, then left the bass in there so it got covered with the adhesive…the finish is ruined.

Because it all has to be sanded away, I decided to laminate a bookmatched curly maple veneer over the top, and then redo the tobacco sunburst.
Just ordered some curly maple veneer, it'll be some weeks before I'm finished.
I already cleaned up and relined the case.

Sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing the final result.

Common problem with those Foundation cases. I bought mine new and it was the unlined version. Eventually the foam disintegrated and fell out. I still need to reline it. I have a piece of cloth covering what is left if the glue so it doesn't get into the finish in mine like what happened in yours. Sweet bass though. Congrats.

just picked up this beauty. so far, very impressed, but my question is this: the neck on this particular bass is not what I would call 'thin.' it actually feels quite thick, almost as thick as those '51 P bass reissues, baseball bat thick.

so am I misinterpreting 'thin' for 'narrow' or did I just get one of the rarer, thicker necked foundations? I was really looking forward to a thinner neck.

My '91 "script logo" Super Ferrite Foundation has a thicker than usual neck from other Foundations I have played. I can't speak to T-type Peaveys, but most of the Furys or Foundations I have played or owned other than this one were narrow nut width and generally slim in overall feel, which I personally like. The only other exception was a Slant Super Ferrite Fury I used to have, 1 3/4 at the nut but pretty slim front to back. I think they had the "T" type neck.

I love those T type necks, personally...if you find you can't deal with it, feel free to PM me and maybe I'll take it off your hands :D
