    Price:
    550
    Strings:
    4
    Location:
    Tennessee
    Country:
    United States
Lovely Translucent Blue-finished Matsumoku 80's Vantage VP795B in good condition, especially for its age. Includes OHSC, also in very good shape.

I purchased this bass from Pete Skjold's personal collection in December. It was a total vanity purchase. I owned a VP700B that was my main bass for years, and I miss it still. It was primarily walnut and pretty heavy, and I sold it locally to a young person. I had regrets for a while...

Anyway, I'm focusing on a) 5 string, 33" scale these days, and b) paying off the house. So I'm letting my vanity go.

Pete upgraded the bass with Graphtec Ratio tuners and the original tuners are included. I replaced the old brass bridge with a Fender style bent bridge, but can also include it on request.

34" Scale (online websites indicate this model also came in a medium scale)
    Brass nut
    OHSC
~8 lbs on my digital bathroom scale
Controls are V-V-T with a pickup selector switch on the upper horn
I believe it's a 1981 build based on the serial number

Price is shipped, insured FEDEX CONUS. PayPal verified address, signature required. Other locales inquire about shipping differential.

See my Vantage VS600 electric guitar ad for a matched set I'll make a deal on, as they'll ship together!

Some dings and nicks on the front and back - see photos for close-ups. Reflected light in one set makes it look white, but they're just dings.

    Neck is entirely ding-free.

    Thanks!

It's a pickup selector! Neck pup / both / bridge pup.

    That's right, actually. V-V-T.

I used to own a similar era 32” scale Vantage with two P style pickups like this, but it had a Gibson style 3 point bridge and VTVT controls.

This one is so much cooler!

Emanuel Master of the run-on sentence

Plus 1 on replacing the tuners and heavy bridge. Every instrument is different of course but I say the lighter the livelier when it comes to hardware. I’d buy this bass in an instant if not for finding my own “vainity” bass-of-youth; another Japanese neck-thu double P! A Fernandes FPM-80.
    These instruments have tremendous voices
I’m very interested in the wiring because I’m attempting to replicate that exact VVT w/selector switch layout on my double P.
Such a simple passive circuit kicking my behind. It’s like out of phase no matter what I do. Oh well

Where in TN are you (just saw Johnson City)? This looks like a super cool bass! Low action?

Low. :) I can measure it for you tomorrow.

Also... I'll be in Hendersonville (TN) on Wednesday and Thursday visiting family.

Quickly recorded sound clips. Please ignore the overdriven interface - I left the settings from a separate recording session yesterday and just did these quickly. This bass is a passive beast.

The tone and volume are all the way up on all three takes, I just used the switch to change pickup configurations.

Sorry for the wait! (I actually measured the wrong bass this morning, then couldn't figure out where the message went)

It's 4mm at the 12th fret. Not quite as low as my Aerodyne!

Thanks! Looks pretty low in the pics. I'm tempted! Still thinking... I'll shoot you a message if I decide to pull the trigger.

Such a cool bass. How is the balance on the strap?

It depends how you wear it - it def has a little neck dive. Strap button at the 15th fret, so... The lighter tuners Pete added help. I use Levy's straps and don't have any trouble with keeping it parallel to the floor.
