1979-1981 fender precision bass made by fender with a jazz neck..
Hi , I bought this bass new from a shop in Liverpool in 1982…it was made with a fender jazz neck on a precision bass, by fender, I know it’s international special bass , which was a limited run..I’m trying to get the neck specs, it’s 38mm nut and 7.5 radius , but I’m not sure if it’s a C neck..I love this bass , but I’m trying to find another bass with the same neck specs..I added a jazz PU many years ago…any help would be great thanks guys..

C neck is 1.75 inches. B neck is 1.625 inches. A (or Jazz) neck is 1.5 inches.

Fenders came with all sizes of neck. The shop ordered what they wanted. I bought a new Precision in 1969 and it had the A neck.

There are some folks who have detailed knowledge of the profile geometry variations Fender necks have gone through. Hopefully you'll get one of their attention. I have 4 Jazz basses and everyone has a different neck. The only commonality they all share is the 1.5" nut.

Are you asking about the width code (A,B,C) or the neck profile shape (C,U,V…etc)?

Like @jeff62 said above, the width codes are based on nut width, so you have an A width neck. If you’re asking about the profile, see below

Fender necks use a confusing letter system to describe both the Width at the nut, and the "thickness"/shape of the neck profile.

Technically, likely just a Precision 1.5"/38mm "A" neck ("A" referring to nut width in this context).

A width necks are somewhat rare, and one with that matches your profile may prove "daunting".

I had a 1970 P bass that had the A neck from Fender. I ultimately had a truss rod issue that Fender stood 100% behind me…even after I told them that I had bought the bass used at least ten years earlier. Even though they didn’t have the neck with my preferred rosewood finger board, they had no problem providing first a frettless maple neck and then later a fretted maple neck in that same profile and width at the nut.

As others have said; it's most likely the optional "A" neck. If you loosen the neck screws enough to tilt the neck enough to access the truss rod nut (hint; you don't have to completely remove the neck to adjust the truss rod), you should see a large capital "A" stamped on the heel. I know, 'cause I own one; a left handed '78 P-Bass. Yours should be pretty much the standard 1.5" nut width/Jazz Bass contour for the year yours was made. Mine is pretty close to the "CC Jazz Bass C" on that chart. Yours probably is, too. The letters and numbers can get confusing, because the "A","B", "C" and "D" on a "vintage" P-Bass neck heel aren't as... comprehensive... as that chart. "A" just means it's pretty much identical to that year's Jazz Bass neck. The other letters mean that it's a P-Bass's normal width at the nut, but the contour's are different. The great majority of older P-Bass necks will have a "B" stamp. The "C" and "D" neck have a "U" or a "V" contour, but the 1.625" width at the nut will all be the same...
So... if your bass's neck has the "A" stamp? Congratulations; you own a fairly rare P-Bass. Treasure it; enjoy it; and play the snot out of it. And, please; leave it as stock as you can... like I have done with mine.

Thanks everyone for your reply’s , really helpful…think it’s the CC ..A…as (GlBrat51) says..I played this bass for many years, in many places… then stopped playing for. 30 years and now at the ripe old age of 66,,started playing again and have rediscovered the love I had for bass..this bass just feels so good to play, I’ve a couple of old squires that have a similar neck and a fender 60s reissue jazz…but nothing compares to my precision!

This was my first gig a couple of weeks ago…and one from younger days..feels great to be back with my old friend..
