1988 MVP Pedulla bass?

Hey, guys!

A 1988 MV Pedulla bass has popped up locally for roughly 1000$.

It looks like it's in pretty rough condition.. But I can't verify that it is indeed the real thing. The headstock decal looks off in comparison to other MV series Pedulla's I've seen on google. I don't know much about these nor am I an expert, so I come to you, Talkbass.. To help me decide if this is the real thing and if it would be worth a trade for my Select Precision.

There’s a similar one on eBay right now with the non-painted neck. Even if it is fully legit, $1000 is too much for it in that condition. Save a couple hundred more and you can get one in much better shape on the used market- they pop up regularly enough.

Thank you! I don't know much about these Pedulla basses, I didn't want to give up my Select for something not worth while.

That definitely does not look legit. There is some natural variation in the shape of the bodies on these basses as they were hand carved, but the proportions look all wrong. The condition also look absolutely beat.

It is legit. It is a Series II bass,. briefly made in the 90's. That one's not worth $1000.

As a longtime Pedulla owner, the hardware and pickups look correct to me.

Based on the rough condition of the hardware, my first speculation is that it is indeed a Pedulla MVP that has been less-then-expertly refinished. The very poor shape of the original hardware suggests how bad the original finish might have gotten.

Definitely not an MVP but looks like a legit Series II. These were Pedulla's lower price instruments (about half the price of an MVP) with bolt on neck and passive electronics. If the truss rod is in good condition then it is potentially an excellent bass. You'll have to decide for yourself if the price is worth it, but it's probably not worth paying MVP money. Let me know if you have any specific questions about Series II's (I have one).

Wow, I've been on Talkbass for about fifteen years, and owner a Pedulla Pentabuzz for nearly three years now, never even heard of a Series II until now! Thank you for an informative post!

I should add that while Series II was Pedulla's "budget" line, they were made in the USA in the same factory.

The cost savings came from bolt on construction, passive electronics, and different woods.

You know in 30 years I never thought to check.
Just hopped on the not-particularly-accurate bathroom scale, and it said 8.5lbs.
