Receiving a Bass heavier than advertised

Perhaps it was weighed on a diminished scale?

Ask seller to cut you a check for 9.14.47 then call it even?

OK,OK. A return is justified if the correctly verified weight of item received fails to match the confirmed advertised weight within the implied precision of measurement. No rounding up, down, shenanigans or excuses.

I bought a used GL Jazz years ago. Seller said it was light. I made it clear I need light. The bass turned out to be over 10 lbs IIRC which was more than either of us considered "light". I reluctantly returned it and he happily accepted the return.

That's the only one. Every other bass I've bought I've had control over the weight so I get what I want or at least I know what I'm getting before it arrives.

i'd worry less about the exact number and instead on how it actually feels to play. if it feels too heavy for you, return it. i wouldn't get into it with the seller over a slight difference in weight. it's not really a perfect science to weigh a bass in the first place for most people. personally i find it weird to even weigh a bass in the first place.

Purchased a rare 5 string Fender Jazz bass off verb. The weight was stated as 9.4 lbs.
As soon as I unpacked I knew that was off. On my postal scale it weighs 9.14.47.
I'm confused...weight as stated is 9.4 lbs...your scale says 9.14.47 lbs. What is your scale actually telling us? 9.14lbs 14oz? If that's the case, the bass is lighter than what was advertised. Maybe it's reading weight in decimal numbers which would still be under 10 pounds (9.1445 pounds). Also, having worked in a cal lab for a few months (even doing scales), most calibrated scales outside of a temp/humidity controlled lab are still by off +/- 5% (8.5 > 9.6lbs)

If you're particular about weight and ergonomics on a 5 strings Jazz bass you definitely should not be looking at Fenders, check out Kikuchi Guitars, Sadowsky, Momose, Black Smoker, Tsubasa Guitar Workshop, and even EDWARDS by ESP. They consistently deliver low 9s to high 8s with active 5er, much better playability on the necks and cutouts than Fenders ever could.
I have owned most of those. I know Fenders are heavy. I never buy Fenders. I thought I was getting a Bass just over 9lbs. (9lbs4oz to be exact)
It weighs just under 10 lbs. Im not going to try and get any compensation. It does make a difference to me but that being said, I will survive. we all have gotten gear that may not be as advertised, I was just wondering if anyone had ever had a weight issue and what did you do, other than just let it go.
