To echo what alot of people are saying here, unless you bought the 89 ray in like... 2017 or something and most of that wear isnt yours don't sell it ever. If thats literally been your main bass since the 90's just keep it either way, even if its for recording or to play with at home when you can sit down and wieght isnt much of a factor. You can always save up money and buy a EBMM Sterling used on reverb, THAT Stingray you will never be able to get down the road (unless he sells it back to you or something ofc).

If you need a gigging bass so selling the SRay is the only way you can afford the other bass, go get a used "Sterling by Musicman" Ray 34 or even something else that will do good enough live until you build up the cheddar to get a EBMM Sterling. On a side note, the G string slipping off the fretboard is an issue with pretty much all modern EBMM basses (maybe not the Albert Lee?), so if thats a problem for you you will have a similar issue with a EBMM SR Special if you look for lightweight down the road.

Ok so, the owner of the sterling is offering 500us$ and his bass for the ray.
Currently he has the ray at his home and i have the sterling.
Love the light weight, love the punchiness, the tone, love the ergonomics, don’t love the color, don’t love the g string being so close to the edge of the board.
Love my stingray, love the color, the character, the mojo, don’t love the weight, don’t love the oversize body.
500us$ would be great but don’t have an urgency.
Tomorrow we will meet again and make the decision.

final toughts?

Final thoughts……., KEEP YOUR BASS!!! If you let it go, you will surely regret it.
Sometimes no amount of money is worth what an instrument means to you.

The other guy knows that bass will only increase in value. The same can’t be said about the Sterling. At least not yet anyway.

Again….. I WOULD NOT LET YOUR STINGRAY5 go.
