19mm spacing on a six string bass

My F Bass AC6 is 19mm, which I like and am used to... However, I am looking at getting a 6 String Acoustic Bass Guitar made and am curious about a smaller string spacing.

What is the 'standard' spacing on 6 strings and what would a recommended spacing be without getting too tight?

16.5-17mm is the norm.

AJ has never made changes to the string spacing on his Foderas...they have all been 19.0mm string edge to string edge...remember, the bridge is adjustable and someone may have adjusted yours differently along the way...

Cheers,

J

interesting!
my '94 AJ is 21mm at the bridge... so, he likely made changes over the last few years, as he's known to do, to check out new setups etc.

Most of the basses I own in any string configuration are at least 19mm, my personal preference. My older Fodera Anthony Jackson Contrabass is setup slightly wider at 20mm. A used Yamaha TRB6 is probably the most affordable higher end wide six. My MTD 635 is 19mm.

The four Brubaker sixes I currently own are all 19mm. Pretty sure my F Bass BN6 was too.

I think STR sixes (also available through the Low End) can be had in 19mm. Not sure. I'm not familiar with these basses, but was looking at a five on here, and ended up on the Low End site to check out some others.
