Well,
I traded in my latest Ampeg rig (SVT7PRO/SVT410HE x 2). I got it only about a year ago after trading in the vintage 1969 SVT810/SVT-CL rig I restored a couple of years ago...see my posts in this forum detailing that project.
Anyway...I always thought I wanted a big heavy Ampeg rig to get the power and old school warm tone I was searching for. Then I got older (56 at the time of this posting) and started to rethink the tone I was going for and the size and weight of the gear I would consider.
I discovered that MarkBass gear existed while browsing around on TalkBass...everyone seemed to like it so I went out to my local guitar store checked it out. For me it's always difficult to to understand how a bass rig will sound at the store...everything sounds pretty good there. I need to try it out in a full band setting to really tell if I like it or not. The MarkBass stuff got my full attention and not just because it sounded pretty good in the store but it was less than half the weight of my old Ampeg gear and I really like the way it looks...yellow highlights and all.
So I took the plunge a couple of days ago and as I mentioned and traded my Ampeg stuff in for a new MarkBass rig (Little Mark III, 2 Traveler 151P's and a Traveler 210p). I only use two cabinets at any one time but I always stack them all to get the rig height the way I like it so I can hear it well on stage.
I used the new MarkBass rig for the first time last night at a gig with my band and was amazed! Effortless power and low end warm punch like I never had with any Ampeg rig I ever had. Cut right through the mix and didn't have to sacrifice tone to do it. I was thrilled to finally get EVERYTHING I wanted in one powerful and light weight package. I several had compliments from my band members and some people in the crowd as well...never had that before. The money is about the same these days for good gear..Ampeg, MarkBass and the like but the performance is night and day.
Bottom line, I couldn't be any happier and my back feels great today!
