Gorgeous Bass! No doubt about it, that is one of my favorite self built (or otherwise) basses of all time. You have great taste, my friend. Any estimate on material cost?

Gold frets? Id think the gold coloring would wear off fairly fast. If actual gold the frets would wear quite fast as gold is a soft metal.

How much know-how do you need to build a bass from warmoth parts and how good do the parts fit (neck and body, and PU routing and stuff)?

The frets are an alloy similar to stainless with the gold coloring throughout. They are between nickel and stainless in hardness. The bass went together with no real problems whatsoever. I took my time with the sanding (600 grit wet) of the danish oil finish- to seal the endgrain. Turned out satin smooth. The neck is raw-only bore oil. I had to do no routing. The cavities I painted with conductive paint prior to the finish application. I sanded the edges of the headstock and various body areas to make them less angular. A little soldering and you are good to go. The neck pocket required no work- fit perfect. Good luck- and ty for the kind words

I must confess to not being a lover of the 'guard-less Jazz (mostly because the control plate seems really oddly shaped/positioned without the PG as reference), but dude, that's a really beautiful bass! Hope it plays and sounds every bit as awesome as it looks.

Im thinking the same. I love the wood and I like gold hardware but the golden island of controls seems out of place.
It is a nice looking bass in any case. Congrats!
