The questions in this thread are about extended range tunings. And that was one of the design goals for the fEARful cabs.

Also who is kool-aid? or are you obtuse enough to only see my avatar and not read my user name?
 
Right. So we look at other "sub" drivers. The 3015LF has a much higher sensitivity. You would have to push more than double the power into that 18 to get it as loud as the 15.

The sensitivity rating of a speaker does not apply over any frequency you chose, and it surely won't apply at a low G#. The sensitivity below the mid-band frequency is determined by the speaker AND the enclosure. You're starting to think like that guy stating 410s will "out-do" a single 18. Frequency response of a 15 can be made to extend low, but unless you have boatloads of Xmax to accept the power down there, it will run out of steam, at which point you would need four 15s just to keep up. (Excursion requirements increase quadratically as you drop in frequency)

I just wanted to learn more info cause that's an idea that has been floating around in my head for awhile, and people on here are really knowledgeable ^_^

I am ready to shell out some big bucks someday, i just want to know if i can achieve this somehow so that i can set a goal money wise.

Is there even anyone that makes a 2x18? Or would i be better off just using 2 1x18s? I once saw someone play with an acoustic 1x18 that was the size of an 8x10!

Also, would buying a more powerful amp help my situation? Because they make the 350W amp im playing in a 500W version. I just sold my amp was thinking about getting that one.

Indremafan, if you truly want to reproduce fundamentals (which you haven't stated explicitly, so I can only assume you do), you're gonna need A LOT more than 500W to reproduce a ~25Hz fundamental onstage. Think more like 2 kW into a VERY large cabinet.
 
im saying (after selling 1.5M+ records) the kick is very important and we, as bass players, need to lock in with the kick, but really my point shows that a 22" or whatever kick is designed to cover certain freqs, bass guitars and amps should punch air like the kick to max out the band's sound. PS im 33, not a teen :)

Selling records doesn't have **** to do with acoustic science. Just sayin' :)
 
you're right. somebody made it like i dont have any experience though, which isnt true. i admit im not an scientist, but i use an 18" every day for at least 2 hrs, and neither a 215, 410, anything really, can match the character of the 18, ime

Possibly, but whether your experience has anything to do with the conversation IS the question. Character is not equal to performance. Character of one 18" driver is not equal to that of ALL 18" drivers.

You are right, the enclosure does matter. So lets take a little look at some simple modeling. Low G# is in the mid 20hz range right? So we look at the first harmonic which is what matters, and that puts us in the 40-50 hz range.

Lets take a look at some simple modeling of two 3015LF's and that 18 you mentioned.


First the sensitivity. More than 6db better with the twin 3015LF's (so even one is going to beat the 18, two crushes it).

Now max db. Once again the twin 3015LF's with 1500 watts beat the 18 being pushed by 2000 watts.

Now consider the ~$900 price tag of the 18, and the ~$600 price tag of the two 15's, and the fact that you need a huge (450L) enclosure to make the 18 work this way.

Sorry I dont believe that particular 18" driver is worth anything outside of a pro PA set up.

And that right there is where our trains of thoughs differ compeletely. I think in terms of fundamentals, where as you're thinking about 1st harmonics. You're absolutely right in terms of 1st harmonics. I am absolutely right in terms of fundamentals. This is why I specifically stated about actually reproducing fundamentals, each time I spoke. Reproducing 1st harmonics in the 40-50hz range is easy as pie, that I know from simulating and building enclosures for 20years. Going down to the fundamental is a whole 'nother ballgame.

My point being those fundamentals dont matter. The first harmonic has all the energy of the note.
 
I would guess that Indremafan is using off the shelf magnetic pickups. Based off that assumption i would say fundamentals don't matter.
More information about the rest of his signal chain is required.....
