And now, based on very little evidence at all, with no qualifications for studying the human psyche, I will be giving an analysis of Alex and TB, and how the two are related.
It begins with TB. A place for bassists. Everyone is friendly, few trolls, good place for info, etc. Note - TB is not like any other forum not because of this. (I think) TB is unique because it's members are regular joes who also go to this forum, whereas most forums have members that are members of various forums and happen to have lives beyond their computers. This is my theory for why people ask why TB is so different. Anyways.
Now we've got Alex. Alex posts a lot. Just about everywhere you look, he's there. No offense, but a large majority of his posts are not entirely helpful, nor do they contribute too much. This is just my observation. Then again, I could say this about a lot of the people on TB, including myself, so I suppose you should take that part with a grain of salt.
But Alex posts a lot more than just about anyone else. He also has an unhealthy obsession with attention. This thread is a good example, as is his 1000 posts thread, and I believe there was also a 500 posts thread. As cheezewiz noted, Alex is an attention whore. Alex himself made no attempt to deny this. (Note to Alex: being called an attention whore is not a good thing).
This is where my super ultra awesome analysis starts:
Posting 11+ times per day takes a fair bit of time, even if those posts are kind of small and offer relatively little help. But he still gets it done. Why? Well, this is my interpretation: Alex is a kid in High School who is having a tough time fitting in. Somewhat of an outcast, not a ton of friends. But not a reject, and someone with a few good friends. There's nothing wrong with that. I myself prefer my close friends to the various persons that I know at school who I barely have any connection to. I'd rather it be this way, a few close friends as opposed to many far friends. But, I'm off the subject. So, to continue:
Alex may be feeling a little blue about this. You go to a high school and you can tell which cats are cock of the walk. Talking to everyone, reminiscing about how they got tanked last weekend, etc. For guys like Alex, to see these people doing their thing makes him feel a little blue. No surprise, back in grade 10 I felt the same way. It takes time to realize that these people have just as many good friends as anyone else, and that the rest is just a facade. But in the meantime, this whole scene is pretty intimidating.
So, Alex is feeling a little left out. He then stumbles across TB. Upon some lurking and a few posts, he realizes that TB is a nice little community, where everyone is friendly and equal. The anonymity is nice, because it keeps us all on the same level. Alex also sees that within this community there is an inner circle. Those that have all these inside jokes and references and whatnot. For the sake of this thread, I refer to one of the most prominent inner circles that I have noticed, composed of Jive1, Digme, NJL, and various other texans, as well as some other people like cheezewiz and Thor.
Alex decides that he wants to become a part of this little community. So he starts posting. A lot. In the vain hopes that by putting himself in everyone's face, he can assimilate. What Alex doesn't realize is that this little inner circle has known each other for a long time. Outside of Talkbass. I think. But anyways, they've been members for a while, hassling each other, etc. Only through time are bonds such as these formed. Simply posting lots is not going to do it, nor are clever gags such as this thread and the recently locked 'Hi I'm new' thread. In fact, all it does is the opposite: it alienates Alex from the community, since people just start dismissing/ignoring him as some punk kid with nothing to say. This only causes Alex to continue posting, and the whole thing turns into one large downward spiral. Which brings us to right now.
So, in summary: Alex, posting a lot is not going to help what I believe to be your cause. Posting less will. Being helpful will. But not posting lots. In fact, can you be banned for posting too much? I don't know, a mod could answer that. But that doesn't matter. The point is that posting a lot is not the answer.
Perhaps you could find yourself a hobby. Try playing an instrument. I suggest guitar.

Just kidding.
So there you have it folks. Alex,
I have completely missed the mark so badly that I can't even begin to imagine what your life is like. You can tell me that I'm wrong all you want. But until I see a change in your posting habits, I'm not going to believe you. My general impression of you will remain the same. Other's general impression of you (whatever it may be) may also remain the same. Actions speak louder than words friend.
Some of you may be asking why someone with 8 posts per day is giving this analysis. Well, it's because I make no denial of my short and cynical nature. Also, I tend to be able to find something to say in just about every thread. And I try to be nice, so that I don't get on people's nerves. Plus I have no life.

But most importantly, I don't attract attention to myself.
That's all folks, goodnight!
