If you had to choose between two DB112's or one DB212 which would it be and why? I'm leaning toward two 112's as it would allow the ability to bring one cab to small gigs or practices. Any opinions?

2 Aguilar DB112's or 1 DB212?

I have both. The sound difference is minimal. Having two with the smaller foot print is nice, but more difficult to move around. I usually only use the 112's for small stages. Other than that, you can't go wrong with either.
Since I never use a single 12, I'd go with the 212. I use a 212 all the time, sometimes add a single 12 to it if I need more volume. Amp must be 2 ohm stable to do that.
I can't see where two (2) 1x12s would be any more difficult to pack and to move around. For one thing, the smaller form factor certainly allows for much greater flexibility of packing options within a given motor vehicle.

The difficulty is simply that the 2x12 has casters. You either have to buy a cart for the 1x12's or carry them. That's the only gripe...
I have 2 GS112s and really like the option of having the two cabs. I live in Baltimore but my band is based in Philly, so I'm able to leave one at the practice space, where we load out for gigs, and bring one home with me. I don't know what type of head you're using or what the setting of your small gigs is like, but I have the Tone Hammer 500 and I'm amazed at the sound level I can get out of the single 112. I live in an apartment and if I turn the master volume up past 10%, especially with the lows and mids kicking, I'd blow out the whole building!
I do think I'll be looking in to getting a cart or a dolley at some point though, Texan is right on about the portability. Handling one Cab, my hardcase, and the head is no problem. But, If you don't have to travel as much as I do, I'd say go with the 212. I was thinking of going for one too but I don't want to lug that up and down to my 3rd floor apartment after every gig!

In my experience, it is much easier to move and transport two 112 cabs as opposed to one 212. Both weight wise as well as dimensions.
I have a cart anyway, I would have one to transport my gear regardless of whether I would have 2x112 or 1x212.
The flexibility was the main motivation in purchasing single 112 cabs. I live in a rural area and have a truck and an SUV, so I have the ability to transport any kind/size of gear. People that live in the city and have to take public transportation make decisions on gear based on size/weight/ease of transportation all the time.
You know what you can handle and what your limits are, so weigh the options and make the decision based on your needs.

Not all 212's are created equal. Within the past few months I've switched from always using two cabs to a single cab approach. Lugging the single cab is so much easier for me than lugging two cabs. It's one easy trip vs. two easy trips or one difficult trip.
With the DB cabs, neither are particularly light so I can see how carrying the two 1X12's, but when you can get 212 cabs that weigh as much as one of the DB112's...I choose that
I did use a pair of GS112's for a few years and thought they were great.
