Hey there, my first post. I'm planning to make two basses. One is a 5 string for me and the other, a 4 string for my sister and i'm a bit stuck. I need to find a bridge: http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/bridge_aftermarketgib.htm That, in black. Also, what company makes this bridge: http://www.allparts.com/store/5-string-bridge-black,Product.asp It's really good looking bridge. Any help would be much appreciated.
I believe the Gibson replacement bridge is made by Hipshot (but don't take that as being Gospel). If so, they would probably do a black one for you if you contacted them directly. The black 5 string is an ABM bridge, Hipshot make a similar (A style) bridge. Both are excellent (we use the Hipshot A style).
Well, the ABM is even more expensive....so.... A word of advice, it doesn't pay in the long run to skimp on stuff like hardware. A difference of $20-25 is not worth saving, get the good stuff, you'll thank me later!
Check out schaller 3-d4 and 3-d5 bridges ? I have 2 that are over 20 yrs old all original and allways stable. 4 string http://schaller-guitarparts.de/hp135061/3-D4.htm 5 string http://schaller-guitarparts.de/hp135111/3-D5.htm I would have a look at those. They have serviced me very well are a rock solid retain adjustment and are very quality pieces.
I am a function over form guy and Schaller does offer bridge with similar build philosphy and different asthetics.
