Haha, i know Pig Destroyer and Magrudergrind especially well...

I grew up with Chris and Avi from Magreudergrind and still give them crap for Chris being in an AFI sounding punk band called Twin Cheek Assault, and Avi for being in a straight Nu-Metal band called Chaos Trigger. But hey... we all have those lame 'durrr i'm only 16' bands we've all been in. I'm so stoaked on how those boys have grown as a band. Awesome dudes and a great band. Sweet that they inspired you! Shoot, they've inspired me, at least with their work-ethic!!

To get the guitar'y sound in my old PV band, like i said i boosted the highs and mids (i hate that scooped sound) in my dirty amp.

It'll honestly just come down to trial and error. But i will put in a big vote for you to pick up a chorus pedal. I know it helped me a ton getting the sound i wanted back then.

I just took mine out.

Time for it to go back on the board...

my band will be called Roxbury Grills, named after a corruption of Roxbury Mills that we would answer the phone with just to mess with people.

I totally vote for bi-amping/blending with an LS-2/etc.

Pretty much the only way to sound greater than just 1 person. I prefer bi-amping tho. I can then adjust the volume of either side of my rig and either sound like just a "guitar" or just a bass.

My 4 channel mini mixer is a godsend tho, since I can bi-amp, but still use only 1 amp (the LS-2 can be used in a similar manner by just using the returns). Really helps in recording, or listening thru headphones too.

Also, would a Digitech Death Metal work for this application?

i have been watching the thread with interest

the Godstomper guy has a great sound on some of those recordings. sounds like good fuzz with the mids boosted. also in the live video he plays with his fingers! good man.

it's some of the guys from Iron Monkey's 'fast' band ...that should tell you everything you need to know....

(i don't think the bass tone is anything special, the IM boys had pretty bad equipment IIRC. but HTS are a band worth checking out nonetheless)

Taking a page from my setup the less low end your distortion pedal has, the better. In my setup I use the GT-10B's EQ to act as a HPF set to a lowish (~100Hz) freq knee. The more you can kill the bass the better. It'll leave you with the mids and treble and allow you to turn up the volume a little more since bass is almost the same as volume for the most part. Anything that can boost mids for a distortion would be a bonus. All of the above is IME/O.

Another thing you might wanna do is put the POG on the bass side, unless its for octave up. You could even use the pog as a splitter. Another idea, if the octave down can be done without is to set it to only transmit the octave up. Turn the other knobs down. Send the dry to your "bass" side, and the solo'd octave up to the guitar

Okay, so whoever said something about using the "Blend" control on the BDDI is now my hero. I just got a killer tone and didn't even have to buy anything! I set the BDDI to the Solo setting that is in the instructions (treb all the way down, bass to 11 o;clock, presence o about 5'oclock and drive all the way up) and then ran the XXL B on the Mega setting (for guitar) into it, and then adjusted the blend knob at, like, 2 or something and it's all like nice and grindy and loud!!!

Why do I find it funny. Its taken an entire thread to come to something quite literally spelled out on Tech21s site for the XXLB:

I've done this type of thing before, would do it again too, a lot of fun. I used a bi-amped setup, clean signal into a Traynor YBA-200 or a Sound City B120 pushing a 2x15 and a DOD 250 overdrive and Sovtek black russian Big Muff (mostly the DOD, only switched on the muff for certain parts) into a Sunn solid state head pushing an 8x10. The actual setup changed a couple times. Then I used my Ibanez Iceman 200 tuned to B. I play bass in a band now that has a lot of powerviolence and grind influence and use my Ric, in standard tuning, into the DOD 250 into a solid state head, for now a Behringer owned by the drummer, pretty much just for clean volume, since I get all my tone from the bass and pedal. Soon into my new to me LMII, into my Ampeg 810. I loved my Sunn Coliseum dimed out for that sort of tone, but Sunn amps must hate me, as I've blown up every one I've owned in short order. I've also tried to start up the whole distorted bass and drums powerviolence duo a bunch of times, it never lasts for lack of a skilled and/or dedicated drummer.

Oh yeah, I also remember using one of those Ibanez tonelok smash boxes or something along that line, whatever the od or dist was called. Really cheap, I got it for free then someone borrowed it and never gave it back, but sounded pretty powerful for an over the top bass distortion. Every time I've ever played bass in any sort of project like that I ended up borrowing gear or using something once and never again, very haphazard.
