2 Songs In Three Hours!

I had two bass solo pieces that I had written, and decided to see what I could do with them from 9:00 PM to whenever I fell asleep. (11:00 PM)

I'm just looking for some honest feedback. Please tell me what you think of them, what you like about them, and what I could do to improve them.

Ocean Tides seems pretty rad, although I'm not sure about the title. It's chill overall.

I don't really have an opinion on the other one, as it's only a bassline.

...and yeah, my inspiration comes like a tsunami - very infrequently but I'll knock out a lot of work at once.

Yeah, I'm kind of crappy with naming things. It's not even funny.

As for the drums, it is a VST Effect called DSK DrumZ - MachineZ. It was the first one that I could find that had what I needed. It is controlled with a midi controller. If you don't have one, (I was borrowing my dad's and thought I'd use it) you can use multiple virtual controllers that use the computer keyboard.

Well, the first one did actually start out as an exercise, so there you go.

I hope this doesn't come off brutal or too negative because I think you have talent. You did ask for truthful opinions.

The first one, Ocean Tides, was nice for the first half of it then it kind of lost a little from a 1.22 - 2.10 as it seemed too drawn out with the same chord over and over again. I think this is where you lost me. The overall song was not bad. With just a little tweaking, that can be a nice smooth mellow tune. It sounded like a kite floating in the sky. When music creates an image in my mind thats when you are doing something right. If you shorten that one spot and develop the ending section, you have a nice song.

The second titled Tonal Frenzy seemed like a mishmash of lines and sounds. Nothing seemed to flow into each other. I really have no recommendations with that one.

You have good ideas and the ability to play. Keep up the creativity. I am looking forward to hearing the next set of songs you write.

I forgot to say that Tonal Frenzy wasn't really a song. It was an exercise. I now am not really sure why I put it up, as it wasn't really meant to be listened to as a song in itself, its just a little warm-up wankery.

As for Ocean Tides, its just a work in progress, and your points are highly valid.

DSK has a lot of great VSTi freebies--i have most of their stuff!

Dude this is really good! One thing I disliked was the drum tracking though. I would've preferred straight bass, but that's just me.
