Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Local deal popped & I grabbed it.... no picture yet, but in a quick demo last night - I think I'm gonna dig this RB115 quite a bit. It was a complete bonus that it literally looks brand new, and I got it for $250!!!!

I wanted light & portable, and 15" Ampeg vibes, and I think this is gonna fit the bill just fine!

I've always stayed away from the Ultra Lo button.... but, I want to understand it better. Ultra Lo is +1 @ 40hz and -10 @ 500hz.

How is this any different than turning both knobs?

To me it always sounds like the button affects a much smaller range than the knobs, less q I suppose, so I like to use ultra lo, then lower bass and up mids when I play my fretless to get the low-mids down and the mid-high-mids up. If that makes any sense, give it a try though.

It quite useful when with SGT engage.

I set the SGT Grid as below image. Both ultra Hi and Lo engage, Bass EQ on 11 o'clock , Treble around 2 o'clock , then tweak the MID knob within 1 -3 o'clock . I use this EQ setup for passive P , J and PJ .

Those bass tone sound more open and crisp .

Without SGT , the firm low mid voice lost and the low end spread too wide.....



If you play with pick and with single overdrive pedal engage to archive the modern distortion bass tone, the Ultra Lo + MID EQ knob tweak work pretty well.

Once i have my lovely knock off pedal , the ultra Lo never engage anymore ......... Only engage the SGT when i want my bass tone sound warmer and rounder.

I found that you own the RB115 . When ultra Lo engage, the RB115 sound more scoop than RB112 due to the driver voice character .

Another thing I've found useful.... for the first time ever, I'm enjoying and making good use of the attenuated (-15db) input. I'm not playing an active bass, but it allows me to roll the grit in a much more gentle manner with a slow taper.

Well I really put my Ampeg RB210 to the test yesterday. I wanted to see how it handled by basses at almost full volume (probably 4 o'clock on the volume knob). I tested out both basses in my Avatar (Sire P5 and Ibanez GSR100EX) and I'm very pleased with the amp. The speakers did not distort or fart out. The amp itself did not have a rattling sound either. This cements the Ampeg as the best combo I've ever owned. Yes it has a few quirks (white noise when turned up and a hissing tweeter), but during a gig you can't hear it, even during downtime on stage. If I was to do this test with a Rumble 500 combo (which I have). It would fart out or rattle the cab or just shut off. Overall the Ampeg is amazing! Great piece of equipment.

Wow! 144 pages. I have a RB-110. Has anybody found a generic cover or perhaps something from another manufacturer that will fit this unit? Not necessarily precisely?

Thanks, I knew about coveramp. They want $85 for a cover. I was hoping for a cheaper alternative.

Do you have a local makerspace or upholstery repair shop? You could probably find someone to make you something for a reasonable price.

Ampeg makes covers for the RB-210, found HERE. Also here, just gotta scroll down a bit. I prefer Tuki covers but they aren't cheap since they make the best covers IMO, the ones they made for my SB300 and 15/6x10 NEO cabs are excellent. Tuki usually has a sale around Memorial Day if you wanna wait to see if it becomes more reasonable for you.

I am finding a Fender Rumble 100 cover almost has the same measurements as the RB-110. It would be $49.

just got a great deal on a RB210 as a replacement for my Rumble 25

the rumble 25 lasted over ten years, however pushing it with the space rock pedal board probably was a bit too much for the board

anyway, the rocket is basically a stand in for my mesa d180 and my pair of orange 115s (too crazy for the house and real heavy)

got amazing juan alderete/twiggy ramirez tones. with the LB100 and flats
still trying to figure out how to dial in the 3 band stingray with rounds, need more presence with the harmonic notes and overall clarity

Any of you guys have a source for a RB210 handle/strap, google AI said it came with side handles like my oranges, but that was not accurate

Add the Fender bassman driver pedal on my knock off pedal board setup. Now i have both grindy SVT-ist tone and creamy fat bassman-ist tone from my RB112 stacked.
