This is one of the coolest builds I've seen on here. I liked the sound sample. Hope the little guy loves it.

2 string short scale for a little guy?

Ok, more stuff. Spose to be sick today but who has time for that. So I stripped the bass down and got the router out. Gee I love routers. I think I might love them even more than my welder... and I really love my welder. Anyhoo. 
Initially the plan was just use the 6mm roundover bit on the edges.
Which I did and it came up quite nicely aside of a few burns where I went too slow.
BTW, Vic ash/tas oak is a great timber to work except for 2 things. A; it can rip out nastily in corners and at the end of grain. B; if you linger too long or too slowly with the router you end up with nasty burn marks.
However, I decided (in my usual getting carried away style) that it could lose some more. Like a lot more. I tried a sureform I have, but I'm impatient and don't have a spokeshave. So I got out the rasps instead. Well I could remove a lot more, but I'm happy with what I have so far. Then I did a lot of sanding, first with the orbital and then by hand and this is what I have. Sorry the pic isn't great but you get the idea. The shape is pretty much D and seems to be mostly even on both sides and feels pretty good.
While I was at it I did some more hand sanding on the headstock and it's coming up really nicely. I also ordered some pickguard material. At $30 (including shipping) it's gonna be the most exy bit of the whole guitar and all it does is cover a few things and make it look pretty. Typical.

Update: been to the paint and auto shops today for paint. I have 10 days to get this painted and ready to go! AAHHHHH!!! I'm finding this real stressful coz I've sprayed before, but I want it as close to perfect as possible.
After numerous question sessions with Mr Muffin, the final colour is Yellow, but with a black pinstripe pickguard. Tonight I need to grain fill and then tomorrow the body will get primed and friday painted. Pray it all goes well or I'm a dead man...

Yellow is a good choice. The kid's got taste.
Don't worry, you'll be fine, still got 8 days to finish it comfortably and 10 at a push

Well, I'm finally getting some primer on the body this morning. I did my grain fill last night, but it seems I didn't do a very good job as there are 3 or 4 big crack in the body just near the pickup. In a way I'm not too worried about them as they'll be covered by the pick guard in the end, but is there a way to fill them?

Go to any auto parts store and get a tube of glazing/spot putty. Get the two part, not the UV activated, its completely dry in 20 minutes and is easy to use.

Headstock laquered...
There are parts of the headstock that have already got a subtle flame in them. This is gonna turn out really good I think.
