So i've got this audition on Friday. I've always wanted some pedals. Multi-effects just break on me. I've had two break for apparently no reason. So i'm looking for a pedal set-up

I need a tuner.

I want a sick Fuzz

What do you guys think is my best option? I could go a little over on the fuzz if it's really worth it.

I like the early QOTSA sounds and that type of music. FYI

Get a snark for $16 and drop the rest on either a lower gain/russian muff clone, rat boutique or distortion (an Aggy Agro might do you good). Lower gain so you sit right in the mix, don't overdue it.

SGFX Imperial, Vick Black Russian or EQD Hoof for muff style.... Sunder Fuzz, Attack Goat, TAFM or Diabolik to get a little crazier...

i did it for a while but you gotta tune between your drummer warming up and guitarists checking their tone
also, if there is music playing loud it kind of sucks.

i have a snark pedal tuner that i paid like $20/$25 for used and like it a lot. it has no trouble tuning to drop c. getting one of those leaves a good chunk of change for a nice fuzz!

Yes they do. My advice, grab a clip on tuner and snatch up that awesome Earthbound Audio '71 Supercollider fuzz in the classifieds right now.

If you have an audition I wouldn't bother with pedals now. The last thing you want is to be indecisively kicking on a fuzz if you don't have experience with it. I'd also recommend spending $50-$70 on a tuner that will last you forever. The Boss TU2 and TU3 can be found used fairly easily as can the TC polytune and polytune mini. The Snark (and other clip on tuners) tend to be that cheap because they're not very reliable in the long run.

I hear what you guys are saying saving money with the clip on but I just can picture that thing failing me for random reasons I think this guy has the right idea. I'm gonna audition with it but I'm just gonna leave it on for the entire song and not worry about kicking her on and off.

The best thing about a pedal tunner is that you can mute your signal when you wish. As for fuzz options, you have Big Game Pedals EAND that has had good reviews and is not that expensive.

I'd say scope the classifieds for the cheapest decent pedal tuner you can find. It's nice to have a mute. And I have had mixed results live with clip one.

Then grab a SGFX Imperial.

Clip-on tuners, yuck.
Don't do it.
Get a good pedal tuner, Boss TU-2 or Korg Pitchblack. Neither will break the bank.
Personally I wanna say, if you've never really messed with pedals before, an audition is not the time to be messing with a new fuzz pedal.
If you do get a fuzz, stay away from any and all of the Electro Harmonix stuff.

I agree with the pedal tuner rather than a clip on. You can get a Boss used for probably $50 at most.

I also agree that if the audition is in two days, that's probably too soon to really get a sound dialed in with a brand new effects pedal. Besides which, you can't order one online or buy one in the classifieds and have it arrive in time to use, so you'd be limited to what happens to be in stock at the local guitar store, which may not be the sound you really want. Is there something about this band's style that you really need fuzz for, specifically? I don't use fuzz much, I'm more of an overdrive person (Darkglass B3K), but I do have a SUF Civil War that's really good.

If you just want a little dirt in your tone, maybe just crank the gain knob on your amp some. A little can go a long way.

Fuzz can be a wild beast to master. If you're auditioning for something, and you don't have much time to familiarize yourself with a new pedal, an od or distortion is easier to dial in off the bat, IMO.

You people are insane. I beat the hell out of my clip-ons. Never had one go bad. I have a nice Peterson at home but no need or desire to drag that into a gigging environment.

Cheap pedal tuner and Fuzzrocious Grey Stache.

I highly recommend the pedal tuner for live use, given that it doubles as a mute and ensures easy tuning in all situations.

I got a used Korg PitchBlack with original box and papers on CL for $50.
I don't need a fuzz, so I don't even know what they run, but $150 should get you something.

I have a snark, first time I used it I couldn't figure out why my bass was so far off half the time. 'My guitar player and drummer wouldn't stop for 1 sec', I WAS picking up vibrations. It's a nice easy to use tuner but it's not perfect.
