2000 vs 2009 fender P bass american standard differences

I'm not sure about the specs. But 2000 was the first year that Fender changed the name from "American Standard" to "American Series". In 2008, they changed it back to "American Standard" along with some changes (ie., high-mass bridge; finish; lighter-weight tuners; etc.).

2000 will have a thicker/heavier finish. Heavier Shcaller tuners vs. the 09/08 Lighter Hipshots. String through bent metal bridge vs. 09/08 "High Mass" bridge.

Satin finished headstock, vs. glossy on the new ones. Finish on the back of the neck would be less buffed out originaly on the 2000, but after 9 years of playing , is probably buffed out to about the same level as the new neck finish.

Maple board will have a satin finish on the 2000 vs. gloss on the 09/08

If memory serves me correctly the 2000 will have factory Schaller strap locks while the new Fender will have old school standard strap buttons.

This is pretty much it.

I had a 2000 and now own a 2008 P Bass.

The biggest differences to me are the tuners and the thickness of the finish. That 2000's finish was bulletproof, and it was real neck-diver; the only Fender I've had that neck dived.

hey, i am currently looking at buying a used 2000 fender P bass am. std. I was wondering if any of you knew the spec differences between the 2000 and a new 2009. thank you very much in advance!
I have a 2000 fender American series precision bass and was wondering if the pickups in these are basically unchanged from the 70s P bass pickups. I know they say there is a difference between 50's 60's 70's P bass pickups and their winding and tone etc. I am wondering how the 80s 90s and 2000's P bass pick ups and tone differ if any difference at all to the 50s 60s and 70s P bass pickup tone. Has there been any changes to the P bass pickups since The 70s and what are the tonal differences , output differences etc?
