found near me for sale.

I have been dying for a new bass for a long time now, and this one is just crazy funky looking. AND its a Modulus...a bass I have always wanted to own.

He says he is the original owner, and bought it in 2002. Told me all parts are original, but I just can't see those gold parts coming standard to that bass, OR they are and it just makes it that much more "flashy"

Personally, I don't care for the gold flash on that thing, BUT the price seems right...

$1,800...like new, original case MINT condition. Guy just doesn't play it anymore.

what do you think!?!? Is that a fair price for this year and model bass?

I mean..I guess its pretty good since the condition is mint and it comes with an original case, PLUS he is the original owner....

wondering if I should sell a couple things to help out my cause...hmm...might have to become a donator and sell some old stuff :)

Look for similar items for sale here and elsewhere. What are *YOU* willing to pay for it? Doesn't really matter what anyone here says; if you're not willing to pay the $1800, then it's not worth $1800. If you are willing to pay $2k, then $1800 is a steal...

wow that red Q5 Kicks major butts! delicious. I thinkin if I bought the one I posted, Id def. change those gold knobs and bridge for black ones. all day.

$1500 is a good price. Two years ago an early aughts Q5 could command up to 1900 if it was exceptional in some way (rare top/finish). Nowadays, not so much. If you can get it for 1500, you'll have bought one of the best 5's there is for a great price.

Just purchased a 2002 Quantum 5 for $1250. Best bass I've ever played. Super action, great tone(s). I could live the rest of my days without buying another bass. Simply incredible. Makes my custom Carvin IC5 seem like childs play. If you can pull the trigger on a Modulus, then do it. You won't be dissapointed.

I (my fingers) haven't noticed the string spacing being any different than other basses while playing. If anything, this bass is easier to play than any bass I've dealt with before (smooth as silk). That being said, my guitarist picked up my Q5 and was able to play it much more easily than he has with any of the other basses that I've brought to practice. This may be due to tighter string spacing; more akin to guitar string spacing?

I am bringing both my Modulus Q5 and Carvin IC5 to practive tonight (going to try setting the action on my Carvin to match that of the Modulus). I'll check and see how different the string spacing is.

I think you could overcome any spacing issue within a couple hours. IMO well worth the investment.

I measured the distance between the center of the G-string and low B-string at the 24th fret on my Modulus and on my Carvin. Roughly, this is what I saw:
* Modulus Q5: 2.50 inches
* Carvin IC5: 2.75 inches

So the Q5 strings are a little bit closer together. It seems that this could pose a bit of a problem if one were thinking about replacing the pickups on a bass. The pole spacing on the pickups may not agree completely with the string spacing on the bass.

Price is steep;
Gold is normal on these;
You really should play this before you decide - these bases do NOT have skinny necks like a Zon, despite the fact that they're both carbon fiber necks.

But these are cool bases and that is a configuration I've lusted after in the past...
