2006 NBA Draft

My thoughts:
1. I seriously hope that the 'Stache doesn't end up in Portland. Lebr-wade-melo Magic-jord-bird couldn't save that team.
2. Tyrus Thomas will be drafted first and will suck. A watered-down version of Vince Carter.
3. Any Top-10 NBA defense will all but shut down JJ Redick.
4. Miami needs a backup center who can block shots like Zo could.
5. I bet the Pistons are planning on canning Ben Wallace and will be looking for a center in this draft.

Brandon Roy is the best player in this draft. I hope he goes somewhere where he can play his natural position, and not be forced into being some franchse/lifesaver.

-If Toronto doesn't trade, something tells me they pick Bargnani, the worst pick in the history of the draft, not because he sucks, but because his position in Toronto is already loaded.
-I'd actually like to see Bargnani on the Bulls, as Benetton's coach has said. Miracles can happen, but I won't be surprised if Pax passes. Thomas would be adding redundancy to what Chandler already does. His only saving grace is that he could be a clutch player, but Gordon hasn't fully matured yet either. If not Bargnanni on the Bulls, I'd like to see Aldridge, and if not Aldridge, then Roy. Pax has a history of drafting "good" players, so Aldridge or Roy are bets. That still won't stop me from hoping Bargnanni ends up with the Bulls. Bargnanni still needs physical toughness, and Skiles may be the guy to instill it in him.
-Morrison might be an ace scorer in the NCAA, but I go with the flow and say he's a one trick pony, good for 20 PPG, 3 RPG, and 1.5 SPG in his prime. Evidently, he's been working on his quickness and agility, but I have to see it to believe it.
-The steal of the draft, Saer Saene. He is an athletic freak, and though he's not going to be Alonzo Mourning in his prime, he could be an continuously underrated defensive threat. Either that, or he'll be yet another young skinny kid who picks up way too many fouls in the paint.

The Pistons do not have a pick in this draft in EITHER round. JJ Reddick is a taller Steve Alford and shouldn't go till the second round. Adam Morrison is Szerbieck without the defensive foot quickness
Those two will be the biggest bust in the draft. The only way either one could contribute to an NBA team is if they wind up with Shaq who will draw double teams because neither is capable of manufacturing his own shot.
I'm kinda excited about it ... since my C's have a fairly high pick. I'd like to see some big trades tonight, too!

too many teams passed up on marcus williams. rajon rondo got picked before williams.
the knicks did not make a good decision with their pick at ALL! they could have gotten that south carolina guy at 29 or even in the second round!
lots of international players.
portland will be brandon roy's grave! he needs to get out of there!

As a Kentucky redneck, I gotta say that Rondo has no business being in this draft. He didn't even do much with KY in the SEC...what makes him think the NBA will be easier for him? The kid has no jump shot, and he's not going to be able to get layups in the NBA like he (occasionally) did in the SEC. At least he plays good defense, but...what are some of these kids thinking these days? Last year it was Kelenna Azibuike leaving early for the draft, and he didn't even get picked.
Are today's college players living in some alternate universe where they see something other than what we see? If a kid can't even average 15 pts. or 10 rebounds in their last year in college against a much weaker talent pool, why not stay in school and at least enjoy their fleeting celebrity for a couple more years? It makes no sense to me at all. Each year there are a couple of underclassmen worthy of making the jump, and about 50 others who are either delusional or just plain stupid. Who is leading all of these jokers on? It's ruining the college game, diluting the pros, and screwing a lot of decent kids out of a better chance to make it in the long run. Except for those chosen few, it's really getting pathetic.

I'm interested in how the Israeli guy we drafted will do too.

if i had known more about florida basketball at the time, i would have felt the same way about matt walsh and anthony roberson in last year's draft. (neither of whom got selected!)

Agreed. The only person on the Wildcats that I could see as a legitimate pro is Patrick Sparks. He will be the next Bruce Bowen; annoying defense with a killer three point shot.
The only players from this draft that I think will make an impact are: Morrison, Marcus Williams, and possibly a few others. The rest of the picks went to teams that are worse than hopeless.
