2009 MIM Fender Standards will have a maple option...YAY!

It's been a long time coming but according to the preliminary findings on Thomann,the MIM Precision and Jazz Basses are gonna come with a maple fingerboard option (excluding the Jazz Bass V which as far as it shows,will remain rosewood only)

But they still haven't made what I think should be made.

Yes,this is the Reggie Hamilton sig,I know.But Fender have missed making this sort of bass as a standard feature unlike many other makers which have made a non-custom shop P/J Jazz with a maple fingerboard.But still this is great news for the maple fingerboard aficianados such as myself.

Finally! I can deal with the markup because it would cost me that much to get a maple neck on a MIM bass.

And I totally agree with you on the J+P option on a Jazz body. I would prefer it to not be active, but I doubt that will happen. (I will just rip the active electronics out of it.) The deluxe P is nice because it has the J neck, but I still prefer the size and shape of a J body.

Of course, I just put a '51 P 1/4pounder into the neck position of my main Jazz bass. I have yet to get it back from the shop for an un-related repair, but I am hoping to get a great sound from it.

Well, you could always get a '50's Classic P. They're MIM and have maple boards. Nice basses, too.

I was severely underwhelmed with the 08 MIA P Standard I played last week. It was the first MIA fender I touched and I hated it. It was light as a feather, I'll give you that, but it just felt un natural, like touching fake boobs.

Maybe I'm just a heavy bass guy, but I will not consider buying an 09 or any other year until they feel right. Oh to have a Pre-CBS jazz

Yeah, I wasn't implying that you didn't know about them. I was just throwing that out there because they are pretty nice. But yeah, you're right. It's a good thing that they'll offer the maple on Jazzes as well.

I've often wondered why they don't offer the maple board option on the Highway One basses. You can get your choice of rosewood or maple on the Highway One Strats and Teles, but only the rosewood on the basses. (Nice basses, though!)

I would love a Standard P FSR in natural ash with a maple fingerboard to go along with my fretless (Warmoth maple fingerboard neck). The only drawback would be the large frets. I have a 51 RI and a Classic '50s, both with vintage mandolin frets and I love 'em.
