2012 NHL Offseason Thread

That's some cool stuff right there.. makes me temporarily not hate Crosby as much. 
I find it funny that the first link has him saying he got a shutout because he saw no shots on goal and his team was defensively solid, and then the second article touts him as being a goaltending expert because of that shutout.
You figure if you're subbing in to be a goalie you'd want to see some action on net at least! Sounds boring.

Well, the Union is set to respond today. Guess this may be the last gasp for the season this afternoon?
At this point I am so frustrated and jaded after all the meetings and attempts to salvage this season. I say just abandon it, come to an agreement, try to do some major restructuring for next season and let things be.
It's clear that some decisions need to be made on what franchises are working and aren't, as well as trying to restructure the conferences/divisions like they were trying to do originally.
Forcing half a season at this point will just be pointless and will leave a big asterisk next to everything. A lot of major highlights for me were already taken away, like the Islanders season opener at the Barclays Center, the Winter Classic, etc... I'll only be satisfied if tickets are super cheap because no one cares about this season anymore.

I love the world juniors, IMO the best hockey in the world to watch. Go Canada!

Yup, congrats to our neighbors to the south. Team USA thumped us good and deserved the win. My 12 yo son was pi$$ed he got out of bed early to watch the game. Timing is everything, Canada played average, and USA was going all out in every way, winning almost every race to the puck and battle along the boards. Subban played ok, (three screened goals, not much he could do about those) but needed to be pulled.
The US has the strongest defense in the tourny this year, will be an interesting gold medal game against the Swedes.
And what do you think about Canada scoring a goal after the whistle was blown? Craziest goal I've seen.

Nothing could make me not hate Cindy. If he would have taken a shot he probably would have cried to the ref to tell the other guy to shoot lighter.

I just keep the Philly sports motto in my head "there's always next year". /facepalm
I may have misspoken in my original post. I believe it was the first pre-season game for 2012-2013 that was going to be Islanders v. Devils at the Barclays Center.
They were definitely set to play there, I know that much.
Looks like a tentative agreement between the NHL & NHLPA has been struck.
I have no idea as to how that will be implemented, if it needs to be accepted by other parties or members within the NHL or NHLPA, how many games they'd play, what concessions each party made, etc.
On paper, the lockout is over. In reality, it's a total fiasco.
Players everywhere will be "forced" to return to North-America to start the season which will need to all be planned out, from hotel reservations, plane tickets, number of games to be played, their schedules, etc.
Add to that the fact that a bunch of players have suffered very real injuries while playing overseas and you have a strange (if interesting) bunch of players missing from the action.
Eesh... What a terrible mess this season has been. It all began with Fehr's inaction, continued with the owners' ridiculous first proposal, and has caused a ripple effect of consequences for everybody, including the small businesses that depend on NHL games for revenue. And now, I'm expecting a season with half of the games.
