2012 NHL Offseason Thread

From my driveway in Sunapee to Thompson Arena, where Dartmouth plays home games, in Hanover is 45 minutes. We usually leave early enough to stop at Molly's or Salt Hill Pub before the game. I'm loving how close it is compared to how far I had to drive to WHL games in Washington State, and there is no college hockey there.

I'd be down for checking out the Beanpot in February. All games are at the Garden, correct? That's just over two hours from Sunapee.

Maybe it's time to move on instead of holding anger and hatred for a symbol which is a weird concept to me. Feel free to dislike a player but a team no matter who they have on it? That's strange...

That's closer than I thought; not a bad trip.

The Beanpot games are at TD Garden the first two Mondays in February. A ticket gets you into both games that evening, but note that the first Monday starts at 5 PM and the championship/consolation night starts at 4:30 PM. The first round matchups are BU vs. Northeastern at 5 PM and BC vs. Harvard at 8 PM.

One might infer from that info that the championship game will be BU vs. BC, but you never know. Tickets are going fast, by the way. Many sections are sold out.

Go to your favorite source for NHL statistics and spend some time playing with the numbers of the Edmonton Oilers and a guy named Wayne Gretzky during the 1980s. Then check out which division they played in and which division the Winnipeg Jets played in. Do some math, and see if you still find it "strange" that I'm holding a grudge.

'Sensible' is like so many Wings fans I kniow around here that still hate the Avalanche for something Claude Lemeiux did long after the guys was traded away from then and since retired.

It's sports, we're entitled to our crazed hatred of other teams/players/fans for however long we feel it takes us to get over it for whatever reason we feel slighted in the first place. And if you're a Philadephia sports fan, you can even hate your own team/players/fellow fans!!! BONUS!!!

Seems like wasted energy to me, but you guys must enjoy it if you kept it up this long.

In all seriousness, I truly doubt there will be hockey this season. Though I applaud Bettman for the refreshing suggestion he brought forward, I wonder how the players and owners might focus on collective (rather than individual) wants. A player in his last years, one with high salary, and one with a low salary will all have different interests at hand, I fear.

When January rolls around, half of the season will have been lost. Good thing I have a whole bunch of other hobbies.

Maybe no NHL hockey. Plenty of college and junior hockey around. I've been getting my fix, that's for sure.
