This is a 2020 G&L SB-1 Build to Order. It is dead mint and has only been gigged one time. There is a slight blemish at the top of the headstock that is only noticeable up close; it does not chip or break the finish. I did not notice it when the bass came to me from G&L and can only assume it is a factory blemish as the bass has never been dropped or mishandled in any way (even at the one gig it stayed in its case except when being played). It comes with the hard case, COA, and spec sheet. Alder body in ruby red metallic Vintage pearloid guard 1/4 sawn neck, 1 5/8” medium C 7.25 radius Ebony fretboard Vintage frets No top dots White binding Black headstock, model delete Its a beauty of a bass. Unfortunately the buying experience from G&L was horrendous and, because of that, I’ve never really bonded with the bass. It makes me sad but I’m thinning the herd and she just didn’t make the cut. $2100 shipped, reasonable offers will be considered. No trades. Shipping CONUS only or local Austin, TX pick up.
Good Lord this is a beautiful bass. Sorry about all the headaches and nonsense with your buying experience - I remember you telling me about that briefly. Nothing will sour me faster on a company or person than terrible customer service.
This is still available? Such a sweet instrument. Somebody needs this, and they just don’t know it yet!!!
I also had an awful experience trying to get a build-to-order G&L guitar through Axe Palace. Not sure if it was G&L or the shop's fault, anyways after six months nothing had materialized while I saw many other people get their orders fulfilled ahead of mine. Axe Palace and G&L did not produce any satisfying answers other than "it will be ready soon" despite an initial quote of 12-16 weeks lead time. I ended up filing a Paypal dispute and got my money back because I didn't know if the dealer was taking my money and running with it or not. Very negative experience.
It’s a truly wonderful bass. It plays great, sounds great, and if it doesn’t sell I’ll be fine with keeping it. But yeah, G&L is a crap company to deal with.
This is exactly what I’m going through right now. I’m a little over 5 months since I placed my order and I haven’t heard anything. I reached out to the shop I ordered through and they mentioned that G&L is pretty horrible about providing updates… I’m inclined to believe him based on thread. I’m at a loss as to what to do. I just want to cancel the order and buy something by else, but I don’t want the shop I ordered through to be impacted negatively if it’s not their fault
I had try to work with the shop (Axe Palace). They were so unresponsive... like just show me some proof that you sent an order to G&L for the guitar on XX date.... That was too much to ask. Its 2021, you deserve better customer service than that IMHO, if you don't have a meaningful update other than "soon" I would file a dispute while you still have buyer protection.
I've gotten so many insane deals from folks bailing on their custom build G&Ls, sooner or later you see one come up that checks all the boxes, just buy then lol - My SB-2 is the sweetest, easiest to setup bass I own, it will stay. Someone will enjoy this bass, don't let the CS of the company sour you to the brand, chances are the builders would agree with you
Like I said, I’ll be fine keeping it if it doesn’t sell. It’s a really incredible bass. Once they got it right they really nailed it. Still, I need to thin the herd and she just didn’t make the cut. So if she sells, someone gets a phenomenal bass.
