2021 Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass

For those who have tested both, is there always the same pre amp buzz issue on new black/white models ?

In that price range, that seems to be one of best PJ 5 String choice (Sire MM doesn't have enough the P sound)

It's not a matter of colours, it's a matter of who was working the QC line on the particular day your instrument went through.

My San Dimas 5J has no EM buzz, and neither has any that I've played locally. But there are enough reports out there of noisy electronics that it's probably more than just a small problem.

I'd recommend trying a few and picking the one that feels and sounds best.

Yeah, the top loading bridge is nice. The Fender mount version of the B style bridge was a direct drop in replacement. I got the aluminum version, which is much lighter than the stock high mass bridge.

Nice, what did you notice different?
Just curious, because a preamp on bass this level I would normally switch out, but I have not found the need for that yet.
I'm not opposed on doing it to one of the (2) I own.

I have just bought my third Charvel; the lime green metallic 4. After buying it I spent 2 afternoons working on it, which included removing the supplied pre amp and fitting a John East pre amp in place.

The supplied pre amp wasn't as bad as the one supplied with my metallic blue Charvel but it still wasn't good enough to keep. Already owning two Charvels, I just assumed I would be replacing the pre amp before buying it, so I wasn't disappointed.

Glad you found a pre that works for you!

I remain surprised by all the folks who say that their Charvels are noisy and that the preamp is no good. My 5J was quiet from the outset (as were all of the ones that I tried locally), and while the OEM preamp is definitely not on par with a Noll or and East or equivalent, I find it quite usable and I'm sure I'd be fine keeping it in indefinitely if I wanted to. To be sure, turning down the level of the preamp on the trimmer helped a bunch too.

That said, I still might swap it out for a Glock, just because it's hard to resist the urge to modify stuff sometimes :thumbsup:

Gotcha, I find my preferred sitting that works for me is cutting the treble down a quarter of the way (so really 1/8" since it detinted), dropping the mids just barley off center and boosting the bass just barely as well…When the strings start going cutting the treble ever so slightly.
