215d vs 215d bw?

hey im a new guy but no time for introductions. i just got a deal on a peavey mark viii head and a 215d cab for 300bucks. did i get a deal or did i get screwed? my cab has slot ports, i have seen a couple of 2x15 with different port configs, but mine seems to be 2 separate chambers and slot ports for each. i have no idea what speakers are in it and i fear someone might have raped the black widows out of it because my speakers are all black and i pulled one only to find no stickers anywhere, no info they just say 8ohm. i think there was a number like 1567x on the speaker :( so my main question is did these 2x15d cabs come with different speakers or are they supposed to be black widows? hope you guys can help

First of all, you weren't 'had', lol! If the cab itself is a 215D-there should be a tag somewhere, that was a later, deeper design...much better for bass guitar. As for the speakers themselves, it sounds as though they have been replaced with something else. Black Widows (until very recently) were raw aluminum (silver) with a big honking magnet in the back secured by three bolts. If the prior owner pulled them out because they were blown, ask if you can have the magnets. Then all you would need is the replacement basket assemblies, which are reasonably priced. Clean the gap, bolt on the magnets and you'd be good to go. If you can't get the magnets, either use what's in there or pick up a pair of BWs. The Mark VIII was the forerunner of the Firebass head and should be bulletproof.

I have the 215 D BW, and it kicks :)

I dont know if you were "had", as not all 215 Ds had BWs in them. If they did, they had a small plastic thing on the front grill saying "Black Widdows" or whatnot.

The model number on mine was on a small metal plate on the back. Mine didnt have slot ports, the ports are triangular in shape. But have seen the slot ones also :)
