2nd Build

Hey there guys :)

It seems that I have caught the bug and am ready for my next build :p

Plan

Fender Jaguar Copy

5 Strings
Active / Passive Switch
2 Band EQ
Jazz Bass Pickups
Gotoh 201 Bridge

3 Piece Ash Body
Maple Neck with Maple Fretboard
Black Pickguard
34' Scale
24 Frets

So far, I have found some plans for the body and got a work colleague of my dad to print the Autocad file in a 1:1 scale.

I glued and clamped the three peice body up and left it over night, only to find in the morning that it has starter to seperate again (Pics of this up soon). So, I am going to wait to see how much worse these get, but I will probabaly spilt the pieces apart, plane them down and re-glue them and try again.

Anyway, I have so far got the neck (decided to buy one in for this, but I will make my next one, I promise :)) and the pickups as well as two of the three chromes sections. I will order the third chrome bit and the bridge in the near future, but I am saving a bit of cash so that I have some spending money for the London Bass Guitar Show next month :)

Anyway, thats all for now. I will try and get some pics up of the bit and pieces and of the unfortunate cracks in the body :hmm:

Bu-Bye for now :)

Right, here are some photos of the Ash I am using for this bass. The second and third photos show the cracks that appeared in the body.

I have since cut the three pieces apart and planed them to a new width. I will probably biscuit joint and glue them up tonight

I'll see if I can post the schematic tomorrow :)

Slight update:

My father, who lovingly stalks parts for guitars of eBay, bought me an original Fender Jaguar preamp as an Easter present, so I will be running that, but I've decided that to allow the jack to be on the side of the body, I will fill the extra hole in the control plate with an LED that will show whether the preamp is in use or not. I was thinking wither have colour changing red/green, or bright blue... Opinions / Suggestions?

I have ordered the bridge and am looking to order the control plate and the tuners in the next few weeks. I have started making the routing templates, but I do have exams looming at college, so Luthier work will be put on hold, but I shall try and do some inbetween studies :)

Thats all for now,

Peace out guys :)

Oh my, I had no idea that I had left the other ' off there :p

Hopefully, you are all sensible enough to realise that was supposed to be 34'' :D

And @TomA1234, I see you are in Fareham... good to know that there are other 'Luthiers' in the area :D

Updates soon, but I am wrestling with studies atm :(
