I am in the process of re-loading a 4x10 cab w/4 8ohm drivers so that I will have a 2 ohm cab. I have 4 - 200watt Carvin speakers to use for this. Just wondering if anyone has played thru 2 ohm cabs recently. Doing this so I can play gigs with one cab and still punch it when I feel the need. Powering w/a GK2001. I used the 8 ohm cab at one gig and felt like I could have used the 2 ohm to fill better w/out bringing 2 cabs. The GK is new for me, the 2001 anyway. I've been an Ampeg SVT guy mostly, so no need to worry about ohms w/those. Anyone else doing or have done this? Thanx,....

2ohm cab users?

Just make sure you run on one side only (dual mono mode), if you bridge into a 2 ohm load with the 2001rb you'll toast it. Did you try running bridged into that cab before buying the speakers?
No I haven't tried that yet. I didn't get that cable yet. I am basically trying to see what the 2 0hm cab will react like. I may go with 2 - 2 ohm cabs on occasion, not sure yet. The other reason is that I want at least 800 watt cabs with this rig. The 500 is borderline with that amp. Kind of a fun experiment....thanx for your reply...

You can use just about any 4 pin speakon so long as it's wired 1+,1- for the left output in bridged mode (2001rb doesn't use a bridged cable, but must use the speakon outputs for anyone else reading).

Yeah it sounds like a ton but I'm a bit of an old school guy and some gigs(outdoor)I just like the big sound coming from my rig rather than monitors,...but not just that I just seem to like the sound of it better at least in some cases......
I assume you bought the Carvin PS10s? Did you check if they will actually work well in your cabinet? If you didn't your results are going to be a crapshoot!

I don't think your going to find allot of guys doing this. The more common solution to this is to buy an amp that will run your 4x10 to it's full potential. You could also try two 4 ohm 2x10 cabs?
I can tell you I run 750 watts into my 4 ohm 4x10 cabinet and it drives those speakers to as loud as they are ever going to get.
I haven't looked at the specs on your amp but in the majority of cases you increase the harmonic distortion (the bad kind) when running SS amps at 2 ohms.
Are you loading the cab with identically spec'd speakers so you know it will sound good in that box?

Mono-bridge into an Aguilar DB810 = done! Putting speakers into a cab they aren't supposed to be in will nearly always cause more problems than fix any. Unless you how how to use WINISP that cab is NOT going to make you a happy camper. I really hope you rethink your decision. Cheers.
Hey thanx everyone for all your thoughts on the subject. I have to say I loaded the drivers in the cab today and they sound awesome! I apreciate all the input here. I did this because in all my years of playing, I've done quite a bit of experimenting w/speakers and cab combinations. Not for the fun of it but because I couldn't afford the good stuff at the store so,.........that said, with all the specs/frequency concerns/signal testing etc., you can still build cabs and install speakers w/out being a musical scientist. Of course we all want the perfect rig. But it's actually fun to do this for me. So what I did today was load an Ampeg 4x10 w/Carvin 200 watt 10"s wired for 2 ohms, and then took the Ampeg speakers (125 watt) and put those in my Hartke cab to replace the 100 watt drivers that were in that. So now I have a 800 watt 2 ohm cab, and a 500 watt 8 ohm cab. The Hartke/Ampeg cab now sounds better than it did with the aluminum cone drivers. I know this may not work for the better all the time, but unless you're making drastic changes, I don't think it's a bad gamble. My 2001 rb makes these cabs sound any way I want them too tone wise and now the 2 ohm cab gives me a one cab rig that rocks,.......Again,.....I love hearing the feedback you guys have to offer....thanx!

just get your hands on an impedance selector that's powerful enough so it can go from 2 ohms to 8 ohms.
Then, write in big red letters for the 2 ohm side.
