depends, if you are in the PA it doesn't really matter much. I would be inclined towards th 2x10 vetical on a milk crate . get it up higher for better monitoring. IMO, being in the PA makes for a more polished mix. If the person running the PA is thoughtful AND the band doesn't do volume wars...

This is probably too late but I'll share my experience anyway.

I've used my 2x10 cabinet on lots of small outdoor gigs, depending on how small "small" is. Most of the time I'll use the 2x10 rather than my 1x15 cabinet because I like the sound better. They are both Carvin Red Line series cabs so your mileage may vary.

This was at a backyard party. I brought them both, just in case. I'm glad I did for this occasion.

I agree with the "bring more than you need" crowd. You can always turn down if you have to (or leave the extra gear in your van).
