2x10 Speaker or 1/15 Speaker Cabinet

I never liked a single 2x10 cab, but two 2x10 cabs are nice.

Do you even area = pi (r squared) ?

A 15" speaker has a greater surface area (176.71) than two 10" speakers (157.08).

Oh now you've gone and ruined my assumptions with Science. I do love my 2x10 a ton over my 1x15 - but as just about everyone has said, that may have to do much more with the amp driving them, the cabinet design, and the speakers themselves. I suppose it's roughly analogous to the question "which is better for driving offroad, a 4x4 or a Sherman tank?" You first have to determine the definition of "better", then you have to determine WHICH 4x4 and the qualifications of the tank. Ends up being a subjective question in so many ways.

But for me it's 2x10 - based ONLY on my limited experience with each.

I have a Fender 200 Rumble Cabinet and am thinking about adding one of the above speaker
cabinet's. I've always used either a stand alone cabinet or a head and speaker cab.
What can i expect in the way of sound or output. Like would the 2x10 add more mids and the 15 give it more of a lower tone. Anyone use this setup and how do you like it. Thanks for any input.

I used to use a GK 2x10 combo amp with a GK 1x15 cab. It sounded good but was really just not needed on most gigs. I would never lug that much gear around again. I've been using a Markbass 1x12 combo for several years. If it's a big stage I add another 1x12 cab. I'm always in the board for the FOH mix and the large gear usually isn't needed for most club dates or outdoor events that have solid PA support. If you need more stage volume you can always add bass to a nearby monitor.

1x12 sounds great and has a small stage footprint with one or two cabs.

Congrats on your Rumble 200! If you'd posted this in the Rumble Club you'd likely get more answers as well. One thing I'd point out is that combo is 200 watts at 4 ohms with a second cabinet, 140 watts by itself. That said, 100 watts into each cab is not a lot of juice for some cabinets, but I think you'd get a big bang out of another Rumble 1x15 ext. cab and others could explain the physics behind having two same size speakers. I would add that GK has some very nice powered cabinets like the 115MBP that would give you an extra 200 watts and an extra 15. They also have a 112 and a 2x12 in that line, but I don't think have at 2x10. I LOVE my Rumble 500 combo with an add-on 2x10 cab for four ten inch speakers and it is plenty loud. If you don't need the power, maybe just add a Rumble 1x15, that would be some nice tone! Good luck and let us know what you decide.

It's nice to have choices. For years I have used my Markbass CMD210P + 121H for our practice room, and a LMII + Composite Thunderchild 115 for gigs. Recently the practice room was finished (2,000 square feet ). I brought the Thunderchild in after the room finishing because of its light weight, but found something lacking in the tone. Hauled in the CMD 210 rig and found the tone much more to my liking, didn't even need to hook up the extension cab. Gigs can be like that as well (I take both rigs to gigs just in case).

Thanks everyone for all your good advice. I think i'm leaning towards mickcd1 idea of the 1x15 cabinet.
Someone also said which i didn't realize it won't add more volume. But it will add more of what iv'e already got. Hope that makes sense.... Thanks for the great ideas again. This a very good forum. With lots of experts...........
