In my experience, 2 different sized 1X15 cabs (or two of the same sized cabs loaded with different model speakers) are better than a 2X15 cab loaded with the same speaker in each side of the cab. (The thought being, that each cab has a resonant frequency, and 2 different cabs will support each other better than 2 of the same cab.) I expect it's obvious that two 1X15's are easier to move around than a single 2X15 unless you have a truck/crew. That said, for a couple years I gigged with an ancient Sunn 2X15 with an EVM15L in the top and an EVM15B in the bottom and it was righteous! When that cab was eventually destroyed, I moved the EVs into a couple of mis-matched 1X15 cabs and it was even more righteous!
For you that have not experienced the "tonal magesty", (and have a strong back) I can't recomend an EVM (15L or 15B) enough.

I use an SWR Big Bertha.
I like it a lot, but it is overkill for most situations.
What's really cool about it is that it's EASIER to load into my car than other cabs. With the 2x15, it's a matter of "tilt and push" 115 pounds, but with the other cabs it's deadlifting 90 pounds.
I prefer the sound of 15s. Just the way it goes with me.

I rocked an old beat up 2x15 cab w/ eminence drivers in it for years; 2 guys w/ marshall half stacks always telling me to turn it down, LOL
My only cab is a late 80's Mesa/Boogie Diesel 2x15 EV, rated at 800 watts. It's all I need! It has insane amounts of top end for a cab of its type, and isn't too bad to move around with the casters and handles.
I've got an acoustic 406 that sounds absolutely tremendous. I've also got a GK 1x15 RBS that sounds tremendous as well (in a more aggressive GK way). You can't go wrong either way. I like the GK for moving around and I like the Acoustic because it's big and makes me look really hardcore truckin that beast around. That's pretty much how this breaks down.
I rock a pair bag end S-15s, they are not light but not heavy either. Having a pair is nice for mobility. Not a lot of low lowend, but that can be a good thing.
Yeah I've got a couple of those Peavey rigs too. One with these weird vented dust cover speakers and the other with regular peavey speakers with the aluminum cap.
They sound pretty good together under a Peavey Mark IV but only with new zingy strings. They lose something with deader strings. Especially the vented speakers. They're all flab and the regular ones are all zing with no valuable bottom. I ended up choosing the Acoustic over the twins but for a sheer wall of sound the peaveys are brutal.

I like 2x15 cabs. Over the years I've owned a late '80s Randall 2x15, an Acoustic 406, and an Ampeg B25B.
I liked the Randall at the time, but it was my first bass cab ever, and it was stolen less than a year after I got it. I didn't have anything to compare it to at the time, and I haven't seen or heard one since, so I can't really comment on its tone.
The Acoustic I had a couple years ago. Nice loud cab loaded with a couple of cheap Eminence Betas. A bear to squeak in and out of my sedan's back seat, so I sold it.
The Ampeg was pretty cool. Easier to get in and out of the car due to its shallower dimension. I removed the stock speakers and loaded it with Eminence Deltas. Sounded pretty good. Seemed to loose some oomph on notes below G on the E string. Notes in the mid-neck area sounded nice and fat, though. Ended up selling it due to that poor response on the lowest notes, which I figured was a factor of its design.
Right now I'm using this Bill Fitzmaurice designed 2x15:

Only had it a few weeks, but I've played several gigs and rehearsals with it, and I'm really digging it. I'm definitely more satisfied with it than any of the others I've had. As you can see, it's a different design with the speakers loaded way back in the cab. It's clear and punchy and sounds great with my 200 watt custom tube head. It's loaded with Eminence neos, and it's light enough that I can heave it up over my head and onto my shoulders using the side port holes as handles. Carrying it that way, I am able to go up and down stairs no problem, as long as the stairwell is wide enough.
On the dual 1x15 front, I've used Edens and Ampegs. I really enjoyed the Edens. Haven't had them for close to ten years now. Sold them for financial reasons. Would love to hear a pair of them again, see if they're as nice sounding as I felt they were at the time. The Ampegs were okay. A little boxy sounding to my ears. Not a full, round sound like the Edens, but they worked in the mix alright. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to check out a pair of them again.
As a side note, one cab I've been using for several years now is an EV 18BX loaded SWR Big Ben cab. That cab with that speaker has given me pretty much everything I've wanted soundwise. The EV is loud and clear sounding with plenty of highs, while the lows are what you'd expect from an 18. I'm getting the speaker reconed right now, but I'm going to do a little side by side comparison to the Fitzmaurice cab once I have the Big Ben back up. Since the Ben's the cab I've used most consistently the last few years, it'll be a good reference point for my ears when listening to the 2x15.

I am a huge fan of Bergantino cabs in general, but the HT115 is a real standout 15" cab.
It's got a real nice articulate and balanced tone due to it's small size and PA style horn... and it carries that 'thump' and fatness you can only seem to get with 15's, all the way into the upper registers. This cab is a great standalone cab, but just KILLS as a pair!
Personally, I have come to love 'modular' cabs for what I do. Single 15's and 12's etc... are great for mixing, matching and stacking. Take one or two cabs as needed and pair them up to make a 'big' rig with the punch and focus of the smaller cabs.

I had a Eden 215XLT for a short time (it was stolen), great sounding cab, loved it! Didn't need P.A. support the projection was so good.
Recently I heard a bassist using a Ampeg SVT-CL through two Ampeg 115 classic cabs and a 4 string jazz. IMHO, one of the best "out front" bass tones I've ever heard!

looks like the only EVMs they make right now are 12" guitar speakers
