2x15 inquiry

Im liking my SVT15E alot, so im thinking of either getting a seocnd one to use at gigs, or to get a 2x15 to use as my main cab. mostly considering a markbass 152HR, or CL 152 because they are only 72 pounds!

How does a 2x15 compare to a stack of single 15s?
Are there any other 2x15 cabs that are reletivly light?
People dont talk about 2x15s alot on here, what are your favorite 2x15s, or favorite 15 to use two of?

favorite 215 i've ever used was a 800watt mesa diesel 215. i also owned a kustom tuck n roll 215 and a berg nv215 and i like the mesa the best. it was the loudest and punchiest and ballsiest

I use 2 Yorkville 15" cabs - I tried a bunch of stuff and like these the best.

My favourite 215 is the Peavey 215 D BW I have, cost all of £75

Have played Ampeg, Marshall, Trace Elliot 215s and the Peavey just blows them all away!

I use Mesa 2X15's

But they are not lightweight

However, my Powerhouse 2X15 is much lighter than my Roadready

I think your main consideration two 1x15 vs. one 2x15 are transportability issues.

If you have a truck , van, or big 4-door and a strong back, then a 2x15 can be a good choice; with two 1x15s you have the flexibility to go one in the passenger seat, one in trunk, etc.

I've always liked big punch, lo-fi 2x15 cabs (child of the 70s, me) but now that I'm older and injured from a lifetime of moving big cabs, I've switched to a Walkabout combo for small gigs and have two relatively light Schroeder cabs w/ an Acoustic B600H head for heavy action.

I sure like the sound of my Carvin BR115 (with horn). It might be my imagination, but I think two 115 cabs sound better than a single 215.

Ah, something from my era.

Looks to be in decent shape and very heavy -- but if I'm not mistaken the B25 head was only ~ 55 watts... pretty low-wattage, and I can't tell from looking what that cab will handle. Though I bet those JBLs sound great if they're not blown.

The old Sunn 200S and 215S cabs are similar, but also not lightweights.

Reeves is working on a 2X15 based on the Sunn 215S to go with this;

I think they are still doing R&D on prototype drivers. I'm sure it will rock, likely a good value, but won't be lightweight or inexpensive.

The Berg NV215 is my fave 2x15... it's not as light as some others out there, but isn't that heavy either. The placement of the wheels and handles make it real easy to move about.

Like you, I also like the 2x15" sound................i've been considering these from Dr Bass!

These are not on their website, but give them a call, they can be custom made!

Also, they are very light in Neo form................

I have an Eden 115 which is really light and have always thought that a pair of them would be fantastic for that old school sound. They usually sell for uner $300 if you can em. great tone and very easy to carry.

I have an older Mesa RR 215, the previous owner or whoever screwed up the bottom speakers so the screwholes are stripped so I am going to have to restore it.

It sounds very good though.

I use two double baffle B-15 cabs on most of my gigs because they have the tonality I like. I really don't think it matters too much whether you a 215 or two 115's, though. Both kick much bass. I think I prefer smaller 15" cabs than larger, though. They're usually louder and have a bit more body in the upper mids.

+1 I put skid rails on the back on my NV cabs too( simply two recycled plastc garden stakes & I rounded the ends off-& screwwed 'em into the rear) I virtually NEVER have ti lift the cab- & as said pos of handles & wheels makes it an easy roll to the car. Fits in the backseat of my wifes Volvo EASY!! about 90lbs- 2x15" + a SMOOTH 6" hi freq driver!

I'm a believer in bass reflex cabinets.

Many single 15's are not ported. I personally feel a 15" speaker needs to be ported. Even with my 810's and my 410HLF there is a tremendous difference in bottom end and the HLF moves a LOT MORE AIR than 1/2 of an 810. With a dual 15 the cabinet has to be ported correctly for it to smoke. There's been a lot of different designs over the years, but I'd ignore the unported ones and try all the ported jobbies. BOB
