3 band eq switch on a bass.

There is a bass I am considering buying and it has a 3 band (bass, mid, treb) eq with your typical balance and volume knobs, but it also has a eq bypass switch and mid-frequency switch. If that eq bypass is engaged, does it essentially make the bass pickups passive? Or will the bass pickups remain as active pickups, but the eq be adjusted at the amp/board?
If you are curious which bass I am referring to, it's Ibanez 1200e

MOST active basses consist of passive pickups feeding an active EQ circuit. Switching to passive generally removes the EQ from the path and sends the passive pickup signal to the output.

SRs have passive pickups and active preamp with EQ.

The switch is called "EQ Bypass" so that's just what it does. You'll have passive pickups going through the preamp, but no EQ section.
If it was an "Active/Passive Switch" or "Preamp Bypass", then it would make the bass passive.

Only one scenario is you can setup your main tone with no EQ, then flip the switch to engage an EQ preset for a different style like slap, or pick, or whatever.
There are a ton of possibilities.
