3 piece vs. 5 pice necks

in a lot of cases, it is aesthetic. Anything over 3 pieces is probably unnecessary. Some builders (I think G & L did this) have even gone with 2-piece necks, centerjoined. Rip the neck blank down the middle, flip both pieces 90 degrees laterally, and the potential to bow of one piece should theoretically counteract the potential in the other.

I am fond of 7-piece to 9-piece necks. Once again, it's mostly aesthetic. Using quartered bloodwood for lamination pieces can't hurt, of course, as it's pretty stiff stuff, but at this point I really don't think it's a structural issue.

How beautiful... I always loved a busy/complicated look on basses.

Purpleheart can be nice too :)

Well, I like a 2-piece neck and keeping it simple ...

See, that's just so tasteful and elegant. I generally prefer to do multi-piece necks because I can use thinner woods to make them, but man, there is just something so nice about that neck. It just OOZES class... it's almost like it's understated, but with figure like that, it really isn't. Anything more would just take away from it.
