Back on the 27th of August 1987 I bought my first bass guitar, a Marlin Sidewinder KB24 which I think was a copy of the Fender Jazz Special (the Duff bass).Which cost me £89.99 second hand funny how you remember some dates & details.Here is an image of what the Marlin looked like even in the right colour Pearl White Metallic & made of plywood (remember that).
Many basses have come & gone over the last 30 years, & I doubt I ever made a profit when I either sold or pat exchanged a bass. But I have enjoyed learning all I can about the bass guitar, & trying to be a better bassist (easier said than done though). These days I play either my 2014 Am.Std Precision which is a beautiful made bass, & sounds great defiantly a keeper always wanted to own an American made Fender.
Or my recently bought 1992 Peavey Foundation bass with the Super Ferrite pickups. I have always had a soft spot for American made Peavey basses from the late 70' to early 90's. I really like the neck on this bass & the light weight of it as well, and the pickups on these basses were Peavey's best and still sound good today.
A special mention goes to my 1964 Hofner Violin Bass 500/1. I bought this in November 1988 & it has been with me ever since, loads of gigs played with this bass and it never let me down once. A fantastic bass to own and even though I don't play it much now it is, still my most cherished possession. I really do love this little bass.

In fact when I went for my 1st Fender in mid 80's none were an improvement on the Japanese copy so I swore off Fender and bought a Wal.
